DD(11) - what's best for underarm hair?

DD is 11 and has been developing over the last year and now has little tufts of light brown hair under her arms. As she swims several times a week she's becoming self conscious about it and has asked what to do. My mum only ever handed me a razor but is that the best option? Underarm waxing f**ing hurts but would something like Nair be better? I've never had much luck with it but maybe that's because of years of shaving. If she starts with a hair removal cream before she ever shaves will it do a good job?

hair removal cream can burn so I wouldn't use it on pre teens

my DD (10) uses a cheap electric razor and just goes over it every couple of weeks or so, which my MIL was horrified about as apparently shaving body hair should wait until they are 13 and a social outcast

My DD is 11 also and we've got this problem! I bought her an expensive razor - gilette venus i think - and showed her how to use it. She seems to be getting on fine so far.I thought hair removal cream was a bif of a faff for her as she likes to be in and out of the shower in 5 mins flat!

hmmm, might bring her home a couple of options and see what she prefers

DD (10) shaves using a gilette venus. Underarms and legs.

My DD has a tesco lady shave. It seems OK and cost about a fiver.

Most of the teens/pre-teens I know (including DD) use that nair in shower stuff.....

slipslider · 21/08/2012 19:54

How about an 'Intuition' razor...the one with the soap around the blade - will help keep nicks to a minimum.

NellyJob · 21/08/2012 19:58

why not tell her that 100 per cent of people have underarm hair and it's normal?

NotMostPeople · 21/08/2012 20:01

Dd1 used Nair at that age and I thought she still did until I couldn't find my razor and after much searching found it in her bathroom.

Because if you have a teen or preteen that is willing to be the butt of everyone at school's jokes, then you have a more emotionally resilient teenager than most people do!

DD uses a Gilette Venus, she uses Nair for her legs, but found it didn't work well on underarm hair, and sitting with her arms above her head for aged irritated her!
