Help Me Get Modern!

Listening to Absolute 80s this evening I was struck by how listening to music from one's youth can be like time travel! How do other people stay in tune with music nowadays (without things like the Chart Show, Top of the Pops etc)? I'd just like to have more music to transport me back in time to now, many years ahead. Is it simply a matter of having to listen to Radio 1, or worse, local radio? Do you listen to 'modern' music through choice, or do you tend to listen to stuff from the past?

I now have a radio in the kitchen (have probably had one now for a couple of years). This has got me listening to current music, with the help of 10 yr old DD in identifying certain songs! I tend to listen to Heart radio and Jo Wiley on radio 2. I can't be bothered fiddling with the dial beyond that. Hearing good songs then gets me running to the computer to download them, and also my DD wants to download songs so we do that together. There's not that much music on telly still, and a lot of it is crap anyway. My sis listens to radio 6 and reckons it's cool but I haven't managed to yet. I recommend getting a radio in your kitchen, if you haven't got one. I don't know about you but I haven't got time to sit and listen to music, so it's good having something to listen to while I am cooking, etc. Sometimes if the radio is boring, I'll plug my phone into a mini speaker so I can listen to recent stuff I have downloaded.
So hopefully now, in 10 years time I will hear golden oldies and remember what I was doing at the time!
