Excessive eye squinting

My son is nearly 11 and for the past couple of years he has on occassions had excessive eye squinting. I have had it checked by a doctor who to be honest could not wait to get us out of the surgery he just said he would grow out of it...helpful!
Today at his assembly he spent the whole time squinting and blinking and to be honest I find it alarming. When I ask him why he is doing it he says his eyes feel irritated and dry. A couple of parents have mentioned it to me now as it is so noiticeable in assemblies and other school activities just not sure what to do. He is off to big school in September and I dont want him to get teased. It does not happent all the time. Can anyone relate to this?

DS's friend is 9 and does the same. His mother has seen 2 specialists. One said he has an allergy (his eyelid is irritated inside), the other that it is an habit. Try posting in children's health, maybe somebody can help you
