How would you explain what a blow job is to an 11-year-old?
terie5 · 06/01/2012 09:27
My son came home today with the news that there had been an exclusion at his school. He didn't know exact details but it involved a blow job. He wanted me to explain what that meant. I delayed giving him an answer but I fear he will ask again soon. Surely, he will also try to enquire elsewhere. Do I let his friends explain it to him or do I brace myself and approach to topic? If so, do you have any tips on how to do this?
Many thanks in advance.

Explain it factually. Just say 'its is a slang term for oral sex, which means using your mouth to give someone sexual pleasure'...or summat like that. No point shying away from it now. He is going to find out soon enough anyway. You don't have to go into graphic details.
And if you really cant bear to talk about it - or he starts asking questions you dont want to answer - perhaps direct him to a website or book with information about sex for young people?

I would just tell him it's a sex act. At this point (if he's like any of mine), he will run away going "lalala can't hear you", at least in his head. His friends will fill in the details.

"Like sex, but using your mouth instead of vagina".
Ds would respond with "eeeewwwwwww gross!!!!" before wandering off and thinking about it in more detail probably.

He's 11 and doesn't know? I think he's pulling your chain for a reaction. If he isn't, I'd go with all of the above suggestions.

You could ask him what he thinks it is, and what has he heard about it. It could be he has been told and doesn't believe it!

Kreecher, do you think most 11yr olds know what a blow job is? Really?
ajandjjmum · 07/01/2012 19:04
.....I thought you said that had been an explosion at school that involved a blow job. My mind was running riot

I think that my two (12 and 11) know what oral sex is but might not know that that is what 'blow job' means. In your shoes I'd ask him what he thinks it means, and then if required correct/add more detail. But we are quite frank about sex in our house - probably more than ds would really like

I would go with "it's a slang term for oral sex. Do you know what that is?" I would be surprised if he didn't but if not give a factual explanation as above.
Ps you need to steel yourself for these random questions and be prepared to answer them.
