Are girls getting taller/weighing more these days?

My dd is nearly 11 and is 5 feet 4 inches tall! She's always been tall, was a very long baby. She's also a very womanly shape and wears a size 10 in clothes.

She weighs about 8 stones.
Strangely though she's had one period over a year ago, but nothing since.
She's the total opposite to me - I was the smallest and thinnest in my year group.
Just thought we could share - no judgement!

My dd is also nearly 11, she is 4ft 3 and weighs 4 stone, she does appear to be the exception in her class, most of the girls are very tall and like you say have a more womanly shape or are developing one. My dd comes from short stock though, in fact your daughter is taller than i am.

Yes they are. In fact I'm sure I saw an article recently saying that the average 11 year old girl's waist has increased by 8 inches. I will google it.

My DD is just 10, she weighs 23 kg and is 138cm tall. She seems short compared to the rest of her class, but there are a lot of giants Dutch people in there.
Both me and DH are tallish, I am 5'10 and he is 6'. When she was three she was predicted to reach my height, she eats so little it will be surprising if she does.

They seem quite small to me, but that's because I moved from Sweden to the UK.

yeah they are every generation of women gets taller

the weight is more enviroment /society I would think

My dd is nearly 12, 5 ft 5 and weighs about eight and a half stone. She has size seven feet!! She has a fab figure and I am really proud of my tall daughter. All the girls in her class are much smaller except one. They all seem to grow at such different rates. I do however spend my whole time buying longer jeans.

I have a preteen who is 5ft 5.. havent a clue how much she weighs as I have never asked her to get on the scales and dont intend to. She wears size 8-10 clothes...

I think it varies so much between everyone

My dd is the second tallest girl in her class at primary.

She is 10 and a half years old.

She is 4ft 10" and weighs 6 stone and has size 4 feet.

My nearly 11 and half year old is taller than me at 5ft 5in and is a size 12-14. Her Dad is tall. I think kids are generally getting bigger.

I was 5ft 4 with size 4 feet at the age of 12. And I still am. Lots of girls slow down their growth height-wise at 12-13.

Between being 12 and 24 all that's happened to me physically is going up one shoe size and growing boobs and hips!

My DD is 11, 5'3"" with size 5 feet. She is filling out (adult size 6?). Three other girls in primary class were similar and one of them started her periods. I am only 5'4" but her dad's family are all very tall. A lot of her friends are much smaller, but when I see teenagers I feel very short - I was average at school (in the 70s) but now I think I would be below average.

My 11 yo dd is 4ft 10 and weighs just under 5 1/2 stone.

She's was pretty average amongst her classmates (just gone up to high school, so harder to compare) and is actually considered to be tall by lots of people.

Maybe she was in a class of shorties Grin

They are reaching maturity earlier. So, a generation ago girls would reach adult height about 13 or 14, nowadays it's more like 12 or 13 and of course there's always the early ones.

It seems that most girls start periods in year 7 (age 11/12) and I've seen them go from little girls to young woman (more curves and boobs than me!) in just a year.

And yes, many will be fatter because the population is getting fatter.

My dd has just turned 11 and is 5'5" with size 8 feet and in size 4 adult clothes, but not yet very curvy. She is significantly taller than most of her peers and always has been (dh and I are tall, looks like dd will probably top 6 foot).

DD is 12 is about 5' and weighs 6 stone 12. Size 4 1/2 shoe, B cupShock She has always been one of the smaller ones in her class, but also one of the youngest for her year. It is really difficult tl find her grown-up clothing small enough, especially aroung the waist.

Some of her friends are waaayyyyyyy bigger - like 5'6 and size 12, like I was at that age.

my DD is just 10

5ft 2, size 4 feet and no idea how much she weighs but is definately getting curves (year 5)

my 8 yo is 4ft 8

both are tall but by no means exceptional in their class (plus I'm 6ft so they were never going to be small now were they?)

dd 10.5 4.9ft, six stone and size 4 feet. Curvy but still to grow in the bust (just under an aa cup).

Dd one of the taller ones but by no means by much. The average height in her class is on the taller side.
