What do they learn in Reception?

Hi, we live abroad right now. my dd will be 4 and entering Reception this Sept/fall term.

I'm concerned like any Mum what she's going to learning in her pre-school before going to big proper school year after. And also after that coming back to the UK. We wouldn't want her to be behind!

So can anyone give me a site that would help. I tried looking but there aren't really any specifics...just broad "learn through play" during Early Foundation Stage.... Or can anyone tell me from your child what was taught in Recpetion? reading?

I just keep hearing...a lot is covered in Recpetion. reading? Do all UK kids know a lot already when they enter Year 1 like read and write?

many thanks!

Don't worry, they start school so young in England that most kids know very little* in the way of 'academics', and the system is expecting that. Can she sit still for short spells, follow instructions, take turns, wait patiently for her turn to speak (for at least a minute), eat a simple meal without help, explain her needs to an adult, does she know what a pencil and paper are? Make sure she can do all her own cleaning after using the toilet -- those are the types of things she must know.

*Eg, before school, DD recognised about 10 letters of the alphabet and her numbers up to 7. That is a LOT more than my other DC knew before school, too. They are all doing fine academically now (age 5-10).
