hi i would like to pick a few brains and compare notes please? DD 4 years has started the full time nursery class at the primary school at the start of January term. Before that she was doing 2 and a half days at private pre school. She has only recently stopped afternoon naps this last couple of months and is a really fussy eater, out of a hot meal at teatime she will probably only eat the potatoes.
Sibce starting nursery class, she is eating a hot meal at lunchtime and then eats a flapjack on the way home then asks for 2 pieces of cheesy toast and a warm juice as soon as her nose is thru the door. by the time we eat our hot meal 5pm ish she refuses and as a result wakes up grumpy tired and hungry next morning. Do i give her cereal and milk for supper or will that start her thinking that she doesn't have to have her hot meal at teatime with us?
she is so bright and demanding i am at a loss to decide, any experiences????????

serve her hot meal earlier?

My DD (nearly 4) also attends a school nursery. She has a packed lunch though.

But ... if she has more than one "snack" between getting home from school and tea time (and we don't eat till 6) she will refuse or pick at her food. If she was having a flapjack and 2 slices of cheesy toast, she wouldn't want any tea!

We have the rule of one snack when we get in and then she can have fruit if still hungry.

(she still doesn't eat all her tea but at least she makes a reasonable attempt).

If she's really struggling with being hungry I serve tea earlier.

I also found that serving a smaller portion and giving seconds works to encourage her (gets overwhelmed by size of portion).
