Are the pre-schools advised that they will be inspected?
If a school nearby is being inspected, do they inspect the pre-school at the same time?

we are an independent (charity) preschool, but we rent a room from the local school. The last 2 or 3 times they have been inspected so have we - the HT told us they had had notice of inspection so we had a couple of days notice.

generally preschools don't get any notification afaik.

Thanks, I'll warn the pre-school leader then

Nope - I was chatting to our new (2 weeks) Supervisor last March when the Inspector arrived...

we didn't get any notice, but we had an inkling because the school where we're based was being done at the same time.

All done for another 3-4yrs! They turned up at the pre-school in the morning and did the same building and the same assistant in the afternoon.
All leaning towards good
The pre-school leader feels like a weight has been lifted off her shoulders as it's been hanging over her since November.

In the afternoons it is used as an after school club.

Just to clarify this. Since the introduction of the EYFS, if a childcare setting (preschool/B&A School Club etc) is on a school site they get inspected at the same time as the school. The school gets two clear days notice but the childcare setting doesn't get any (so hopefully they'll get the heads up from the school).

We got caught out with this last year as our Out of School Club has always been inspected during the summer holiday playscheme, so we weren't expecting them until Summer 2010. The school was 'done' in January 2009 and we didn't expect Ofsted to visit us as we are independent of the school, but the day before the school's inspection we got the knock on the door at our after school club.

I was only a little bit smug that the school was satisfactory and we were good .
