Waiting Lists

Ok, my ds is almost 2.5, so we are thinking about nursery for next September. We are moving to a completely new area, and won't be settled and able to apply for a nursery place till March/April next year.

At the moment we are in London and if you want a place at a decent nursery then you need to get their name done years in advance it seems. We had trouble getting him into a good day nursery (as opposed to nursery school iykwim) a while ago and settled for one who had a place at shortish notice, and it was terrible. Obviously only places because the nursery was shite.

We are (most probably) moving to Manchester, anybody have any idea what the waiting lists are like? If we apply in April is there any chance of a nursery place for Sept? When do most people apply? Ideally we would like him at a nursery attached to a good primary school but may be pushing our luck...

I am panicking slightly that by the time we can apply all the decent nurseries will have allocated places and we are left with a choice of shite nursery or no nursery. Neither an option really!

Just looking for confirmation/reassurance that my worries are justified/ott (delete as appropriate) if thats ok!

TIA
