Session fees

misshardbroom · 19/10/2009 11:22

I'm trying to set fees for our preschool for September 2010, when our sessions will increase from 2.5 hours to 3 hours.

Would anybody be prepared to tell me what their preschool charges for a 3 hour session, just for purposes of comparison?

If you were also able to tell me what area of the country you're in and whether the particular area you work with tend to be very affluent or very deprived, that would also be really useful.

(I'm directing this question really at parents, staff and committee of committee run community preschools, not private day nurseries because they tend to be a lot more expensive anyway).

Thanks in advance

Clayhead · 19/10/2009 11:30

toomanyprojects · 19/10/2009 12:26

We charge £9.50 for a three hour session.

In South Northamptonshire fairly affluent (28,000 out of 32,000 for deprivation (1 being very deprived)

We charge £6.50 for 2.5 session which will change to £7.50 for a 3 hour one next year.

caykon · 19/10/2009 19:57

I pay £6.75 for 2.5 hours in North Oxfordshire.

Plonker · 20/10/2009 00:07

£8 for a 2.5hr session.

A moderately affluent pocket in an otherwise pretty deprived area, if that makes sense.
NW England.

nappyaddict · 20/10/2009 00:46

£6 for a 3 hour session in West Midlands.

AllGoneSouth · 20/10/2009 00:52

Committee run sessional playgroup - £9.75 for 2.5 hrs in Midlands (2nd most affluent area in the Borough).

However, it may be worth pointing out that we have our own building rented from LA so although we only pay a nominal rent we do have to pay all of our utilties/insurance/cleaning/maintenance etc ourselves.

We did a costings analysis last year as part of the single funding formula consultation and for our 3&4 year olds we needed £8.50 for the 2.5 hrs to break even (so we need more for under 3s to cover staffing ratio)but we only get £7.50ish from LA.

Hope that helps

Sorry choking at the low costs elsewhere. I'm in west London, we pay £19 per 3 hour session, a friend pays £18 in the same area. There are definitely more expensive pre-schools in the area. Thats without state funding. We are thinking of moving to Hampshire, it must be cheaper there

littlerach · 20/10/2009 17:11

£8.83 for 2.5 hrs, in line with the NEG costs.

When we go up to the 15 hours I presume we'll be increasing it pro rata.

We are in Wiltshire.

Mayron · 20/10/2009 20:06

£6.00 per 2.5 hour session. We're in the North West - Cumbria. Small town, fairly affluent. Would like to increase our fees to appoint paid administrator for the group - although we're trying to keep our fees the same as the other, voluntary run, pre schools in the area.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 20/10/2009 20:08

£18.50, south west london, affluent area

NEG funding reduces that to half price ( almost ) term after child is 3.

Tillyscoutsmum · 20/10/2009 20:19

£5.75 for 3 hours. We are in West Midlands but a reasonably affluent village

llaregguBOO · 20/10/2009 20:30

SMall rural village pre-school in the midlands: £12 per session and has just gone up to £12.50.

llaregguBOO · 20/10/2009 20:30

Oh, and £3 for the lunch club.

misshardbroom · 21/10/2009 09:08

Wow, went away for a couple of days and the responses went mad in my absence!

Thank you all so much, this is very helpful stuff, even though it does confirm my suspicions that there is huge disparity in fees even within similar areas of the country.

What is also interesting is that it doesn't sound as though councils pay a uniform amount in NEG, although I (perhaps naively) thought they would.

Many thanks again.
