Does anyone know if expectations of the standard procedures/level of security a preschool should have are written down anywhere?

Would it be normal for a prospective parent to be able to make an appointment to look round without giving a name or contact details, turn up without a child in tow and still not be asked who they are in the 20 minutes they are shown round? What's more is it OK for anyone to be able to walk through the gate (which is left unlocked during sessions despite doorbell on it) and right in through the main external door immediately adjacent to the room in which the children are playing?

If this is not normal, what should be done about it?

You should be able to see there policys and procedures but you may not be allowed to take it away with you.

The security sounds incredibly lax, at the preschool whih my ds1 attends the only access is through a locked door which is locked internally (yale lock thing) and is up high away from the childrens reach. I would consider if I felt safe leaving my child there before agreeing to send them there

Thanks for the reply. I feel it is quite lax and it worries me. I also have other concerns, but am trying to give them a chance as they are the only local place and other people rave about them. I guess if I'm not happy then we won't do it.

At our preschool we encourage prospective parents to turn up during a session ( no appointments made) this allows them to see the preschool in full swing normal functioning mode, without special preparation for the visit.
We have a locked outside door with doorbell unless their is another group going on in the building. Then at the entrance to the preschool there is a locked gate and a shut door.
During the visit a member of staff stays with the visitor at all times
Like said before policies and procedures are there for all to see.
Visitors do have to sign in though, for fire regs if nothing else
