Technology for babies - love it or hate it?

Vtech and others produce digital cameras for kids, mdd is a whizz on my iphone already - what behaviours are your littlies evidencing that show you they are hi tech bubs already? good or bad thing? are they using tech in nursery? or is your nanny incorporating tech in her/his day with your little ones?

Hey, my daughter is 3 and uses our laptop (it's now a bit sticky ) to play cbeebies games and watch cbeebies on iplayer (we don't have an actual telly, and I like that it's not just on in the background iykwim).

My 2.4 yr old has a comfy thing for the pc and gets on really well with it, technology is a big part of todays world they may as well embrace it providing their physical health does not suffer

are there real concerns about their physical health? someone else has said to me that there are 'moral' issues - like what?

Hate it if it limits real interactions with other people and is used as a "babysitter"

I fully agree about the pseudo educational toys and web sites apostrophe

I think if it is being used all the time and they start using computers at a very young time more than running around then yes it will effect their health, everything in moderation

A recent government review - The Rose Review www.dcsf.gov.uk/primarycurriculumreview/- has said that IT/tech needs to move up the agenda within the primary school environment. As a parent of a preschooler, I am wondering when and indeed if this will filter down to nurseries (with many being independent I suspect there will be issues around funding). I think nursery and primary school teachers are put off by technology - and if there is this 'fear' I wonder how well place those people are to engage with our kids around this really important and pervasive subject....

All primary teachers have to be ICT literate and received training. Students applying to train as teachers must pass an ICT exam first.

Until recently I was an ICT coordinator and after working with the LA advisor for the day he approached my head and asked if he could have someone who knew less than him for the next session as he felt intimidated ... I think you may be surprised how competent some primary teachers are.
