Nursery grants - how much and when?

Can anyone enlighten me on this - ds is 3 in Nov - will my privatre nursery be able to claim and thus reduce my fees until ds gets place at school nursery? How much is it worth and does it come into effect on their 3rd bday or the term following eg. Jan 2010.

The amount is different depending on where you live and is paid half termly so the amount varies depending on the length of the term. For each term week a maximum of five sessions can be claimed.

Try googling 'Nursery Education Grant' along with the name of your local authority and you might get some more information.

It comes into effect the term after the third birthday, so January 2010 for you.

it is paid direct to the nursery

you will get the grant in Jan and the nursery will claim for it. it will be paid termly and currently in our area this amount to £10.33 for 3 hours so the preschool claim 5x £10.33 for 33 weeks a year.
To claim all 5 sessions your child must attend a minimum of 3 days per week as you can only use a max of 2 sessions per day. Your fees will be reduced taking into account the grant, some nurseries will reduce fees for 12 weeks at a time with a break inbetween and some will divide the grant over the 12 months so you pay less all year.
