What is going on?
They've given me a little project book full of pictures. They are making out that his key worker just loves making little scrap books of my child with eternally positive comments and over thinking of simple activities.

Since when did a picture of child on a swing mean .....X developing his gross motor skills!

or a picture of him playing with a train set...X appropriately selected the correct vehicle for the track! (i bet it all came from the same box no?)

a picture of him stamping on ice in the garden...exploring the properties of ice!

lighten up!

I can remember DD's first report stated that her mouse skills were poor - she had just turned 3

Kathyis6incheshigh · 19/03/2009 18:06

OFSTED will like it. The nursery our dcs go to was marked down in their last report because the staff didn't always know what the learning outcomes of the various activities were. In the baby unit (under 2s).

dragonbutter · 19/03/2009 18:06

the book is all positive.

she did however tell me that he needs to stop hitting the other children!

no pictures of him developing his gross motor skills though.

it's for the ofsted EYFs thingy they have to record it and they have to have evidence to support it - lunacy!

Kathyis6incheshigh · 19/03/2009 18:08

Do you think hitting would be gross motor skills and pinching would be fine motor skills? What about lying on the floor having a screaming tantrum?

MarmadukeScarlet · 19/03/2009 18:09

Emotional Intelligence?

dragonbutter · 19/03/2009 18:09

well that would be exploring the effects of gravity on his body!

Hilarious!
Love the great book but hidden aside about beating up kids.

Welocme to the world of meaningless guffd as spouted by teachers, salts, nurses and SWs.

(I'm a salt and God,I hate these turns of phrase.)

MarmadukeScarlet · 19/03/2009 18:17

Effects of gravity = jumping off the top of the climbing frame, surely?

Tantrum = exploring his negotiating skills

dragonbutter · 19/03/2009 18:26

haha

X experimenting with water finding out about capacity and volume

= a picture oh him using a watering can to pour water into an upside down baby in a trug.
you can only see it's legs.
he's trying to drown it!

In France, being able to use scissors comes under the heading "sensibilité, imagination, créativité"

it's just ofsted lingo. they have to do observations and fit your child's behaviour into these set types of learning. so these scrap books act as evidence of observations.

and, aren't they quite nice actually to see pics of them at nursery?

kidcreoleandthecoconuts · 22/03/2009 12:11

I'd love to get feedback like this from DS's preschool! I get nothing. It's like pulling teeth trying to find out what he's been up to.

dragonbutter · 26/03/2009 16:13

yes, the photo's are nice but it's all the bullshit captions that go with them that i find annoying.
