No singing at preschool

My daughter's been in the preschool room at nursery a little while now and only just dawning on me they never sing nursery rhymes, or wind the bobbin up or anything like that. They do a Christmas performance so they learn the specific songs for that, but no Old McDonald or anything similar. Is this normal? I thought it was meant to be part of their language development and I think they used to do it with them daily when they were younger. There's often music on, pop or Disney and the kids are dancing so its not like it's silent!

How do you know they don't sing songs? Have you asked the staff? That would be very weird as singing is pretty much a staple in any preschool setting I've known - very important for language etc x

Because my daughter's forgotten a lot of them and I asked her and she said they don't do it any more. But it's a good point that she's probably not exactly reliable! I will ask them directly, I just wanted to check my understanding of what was normal

Often songs are used to reinforce the routine e.g. good morning song, days of the week, tidy song.
Nursery rhymes and action rhymes are excellent for language development and group activities and participation.
They also encourage turn taking and choosing e.g. song sack or song board.

I’ve never come across a nursery or preschool setting who didn’t use some or all of the above.
I’d certainly be checking. I wouldn’t like the background music either. Is that for children or staff?

I would double check with the room leader. Singing nursery rhymes along with action songs is a vital part of early literacy development and I would take my child out of a nursery that didn’t realise this. However, I think it’s very unlikely that they don’t.
