Focus child

Hi
My 3 year old had a form in their bag informing they will be a ‘focus child ‘ and observed next week . Not really sure what this is about . Is this the norm? Do they do this with all children or just children where there are concerns .
Thanks

Why are you asking Mumsnet? Ask your nursery, it will be their protocol.

@Ignored124 it's totally normal. Nurseries tend to focus on a couple children each week so that they can start ticking off some of the criteria from the EYFS goals. It's a way to ensure everyone gets an equal amount of attention and no one gets left behind. There will be a couple of others that will be focussed on too. This happens on a rota basis, usually each term.

We had that in nursery. Each child was a focus child about twice a year. In our case we were asked a bit about our child's interests and they incorporated that into planning for that week.
