Confused about when to apply?

Probably a silly question but I'm a FTM and just want to double check this please!

My son was born in November 2022, so will be turning 3 in November. He'll still be three by September '26. What does this mean for applying for school? I'm not sure if it's for a Sep 26 start or even Sep 27? Just a bit confused!

He’ll be starting school in the September that he’s 4, which will be in September 2027. You apply for school places between September/October 2026 and January 2027 (exact dates may vary depending on your local authority) school places are confirmed in March 2027 and he’ll start in the September.

What does you being a FTM have anything to do with this?

What @BuffaloCauliflower said. But primary school places in England are usually announced in the April before a child starts school in the September.

Is he already in a preschool? Some are privately run , some attached to primary schools, some within daycare settings.Assuming you are in England you would apply for Reception entry September 2027 by January 2027 in state schools.
