Nursery Starting Age Experiences

Hi Everyone!

Apologies if I'm posting in the wrong place etc - it's my first post - I'm usually one of those users that just reads in the background!

Long story short, my 2.5 year old seems to want to start nursery... We have a great set up currently whereby myself and my partner are still able to work and enjoy quality time with her thanks to the help of grandparents too. She's progressing brilliantly - there's no concerns at all there!

Every day for the last week however she's been saying the same thing repeatedly to different people, "I'm going to school soon! I'm going to go on my scooter and play with instruments and children".

It's kind of making my heart ache a bit as I wonder if we're holding her back now!

We wanted to get a few quality holidays/day trips planned before she starts nursery and were looking to get a placement arranged once she turns 3 in the autumn...

My question is, what age did your toddler start nursery? Ideally we wanted to crack potty training before sending her (just a personal preference there).

Just generally wondering if anyone else's child/children has gone through the same phase really!

Yep, DS was desperate to start. He started at 3 using the funded hours. He was desperate for friends and would look through the fence everyday as we walked past and try calling to the kids in the nursery playground. When he started he settled immediately and loved every minute. He remains a very social and confident child.

My dd was desperate to start and on her first day ran in and didn’t look back. She’s loved both the social and activity aspects and was never upset about leaving me.

If you aren't ready for nursery yet, is she getting a good range of classes/toddler group experiences, or is just with adults all the time?

Mine started just before 2, but that was my need not theirs.

We go to the library once a week for a toddler session and have lunch with another mum friend and her 2 year old but you're probably right, we should try to plan more activities where she gets to socialise with other kids... We do a play date once a fortnight but I think you're onto something as aside from those days, she just socialises with myself, her dad and her grandparents!

We have a weekly nature group booked for May - June which should help but it's a while away!
