Youngest in the class

My daughter turned 4 in August and started reception class last week. She had a great first day and I was feeling really positive about her start to school. However, we went to a birthday party on Saturday and I realised just how young she is compared to her peers. I noticed the birthday girl (who was turning 5) refused to interact with my daughter. When we arrived my daughter was carrying a present and simply said happy birthday, but she screamed no and pushed the present away. I encourage her to play with some of the other girls which she did eventually, but I noticed that some treated her the same way. The birthday girl had no problem playing with other children. I just feel so sorry for her. I'm now worrying what it's like for her in school.
Has anyone had a similar experience? Or is this just the norm for this age? My daughter is quite shy and quiet. I hope I'm just over thinking it.

what thread is nothing to do with her age

it’s about a the birthday girl, very young and probably overexcited because it’s her party

Over excitement and a sugar high.
I wouldn’t worry parties are very odd and kids do t behave normally.

Your DD may be younger but she clearly has better manners!!!

If your worried you could always ask the teacher what her friendships are like in class but give her time to form them.
