Hampton pre prep school

A bit confused on assessment process for nursery admissions at Hampton pre prep.
Hoping to get a seat since my child was 2 year old.
The open day experience wasn't great, the headmaster seemed to only concentrating on few selective parents, she wasn't making an effort to speak to all parents. During her speech back in summer she kept looking at particular set of parents and was ignoring the whole set on the right hand side of the group.
During assessment, she only spoke to one single child, didn't make effort to speak to all.
Really getting confused vibes on this school. The results are expected in few days.
Been done assessment at other schools for other child, have met very impressionable Headmasters who put efforts in the whole process. I feel for the admissions lady to be managing the process so well but the Headmaster behaviour is worrisome.
Any inputs on your experience for Hampton pre prep school, in assessment or school life ? Please share

We also did an assessment for this school. It’s highly selective and going by what they said they are over subscribed so can afford to be choosy. Everyone seemed friendly to us though.

We are aware of the selection procedure. That's not the issue. Every school is choosy and has tough selection process. It's definitely a popular school. I am assessing the school for my child and looking for school life experience. I must say the teachers were nice especially the admissions lady but I have definitely met very impressionable Headmasters.

Glad you had a good experience. Best of luck for your child.

We had the same impression during assessment day that Head Teacher did not even welcome us or said any word. It might be a selective school, but for us does not make any difference, we as families still deserve a nice smile and welcome when you meet with teachers. So I hear what you are saying...

We did experience this as well. It was very badly managed. The Head master controls the school and decisions and it definitely didn't feel like she was keen on even exchanging a smile or talking to all kids. In fact we were told, she will be busy with kids at assessment but she only spoke to one selective kid at assessment, all 5-6 were on their own. It should ring alarm bells for parents considering this school. There is review I read on Google as well, it makes sense after experiencing it.

Hi mom's.. my little one will be starting nursery at Hampton preprep this September. Just wondering if there are other moms whose little one got into Hampton.
Which areas usually are good to stay as we will be relocating from canary wharf

We decided not to go as this school was just a bit too far away (we live in Richmond and there are other good schools closer). Hampton seems like a nice area although I am not sure how you will find your commute from there if you have to travel to the city. I have a friend whose son is also in nursery there and is doing brilliantly. Good luck with the search.

We chose not to accept the Hampton offer due to the distance and the experience we had at open day.
We rather chose another good school closer to city.
I am sure you would have parents evenings soon to meet all classmates and parents . We are looking forward for our meet with this other school in Aug. The school we chose is super organised we already have a full schedule till Dec and I feel relaxed knowing it.
Good luck everyone !

Thanks for replying
Quick question isn't Hampton school only 15min drive from Richmond as we are planning to move in Richmond or Kingston only so that we both can commute for work

Uktxn · 07/06/2022 16:49

Hi, just finishing year 6 at Hampton prep, commuted to school and work in London from Teddington and that worked well. Getting to school from Richmond and Kingston usually requires crossing bridges, traffic can add a lot to travel times. Just coming down Hampton Hill high street from the prep can take 20 minutes some days…you cannot cut across Bushy Park anymore from Kingston. Pls do me if you want to chat in detail.

I meant you can DM me 😊

bump.
is Hampton prep as ….. as pre prep……. From the sound of it ……

WimbersMum · 15/12/2023 21:07

I agree that is odd. A year on, we had a lovely warm welcome from Hampton Prep on assessment day. It was DS’s favourite 7+ morning actually, out of all the schools he visited.
