Mulberry House vs Broadhurst

Hi

We have been offered places at both Mulberry House School and Broadhurst in West Hampstead. While Broadhurst is closer, the timings are not great as we both work full time (wrap around care will be expensive). Mulberry House has better timings but 30 minutes away door to door. Would be grateful for your views on either/ both if you have a child going there. We ideally want somewhere that is best for child and does not put too much pressure on her (I am aware of the reputation of both places). Many thanks.

Hi! First ever message.

@Smth15

From my own research which I have only just started there is very little to choose between them.. Are you hoping to move your child to another school after MH or BH? That may help inform your decision...

Although I presume you would have decided by now - which did you choose?

Can I ask how early did you apply to MH or BH in order to get a place?

We after a lot of research (speaking to parents) decided against BH. Many have had terrible experience there with the new (ish) headmistress and new proprietor. I got the feedback that they’ve don’t care about students/parents and focused on money. Also very unhelpful. They were also recently reprimanded by the council for taking money for them to provide the free 15 hours and misusing the funds. Speak to camden council if you need details.

MH we applied in Feb 21 for May 2022 start. And got an offer in June 21.

BH on the other hand told me in May that there was no space so I should pay a waitlist fee. After I paid this magically in 2 days they had a spot and then I was asked to pay a registration fee (on top of the waitlist fee) and deposit. The same happened to 6 of my NCT and some other neighbours. So they say they don’t have space to get more money out of you and then allocate a space and demand a non-refundable deposit. The deposit at all other private schools is refundable if they can fill your space- not at BH! Total money making scam in my view!!

Can I kindly ask what kind of place you received?

We applied in October 2020 for an April 2022 start but still haven’t managed to get a morning place. We did receive full time offer and an afternoon place but couldn’t make it work logistically.

Hello I live in Australia and worked at broadcast. I found it to be a lovely nursery abd Deidre Berkery has a wonderful reputation. However I feel she may have retired by now. I am now a qualified Montessori teacher which has a wonderful philosophy on education. Smile

Hi all. I got a number of PMs so updating. We ended up choosing another school (St Marys) as the timings were much better and we found it had a better garden and less pressure.
