DS is 3 and picking up letters, like his name and M for mummy type thing.. so I started looking into how to pronounce letters and now I'm in a mess!

Do I say.. Ay, bee, cee
Aa, buu, cu
Or phonics

I know they're taught in phonics later on but it seems so strange to teach some of them in this way.

Anyone worked this out/ a preschool teacher who can help me!

Not ay, bee, cee
Not aa, bu, cu either

It's short sounds without the 'u' part

So c-a-t not cu-aa-tu

Hi Katy,

I have recently come across a great channel which breaks down all the different types of phonic sounds for parents and also teaches children each sound. Here is a link to one of the videos about phonics and there’s lots more on her channel - I hope you find it helpful :)

I taught mine both simultaneously. Letter name and it’s associated phonic sound and it worked okay but that might not be what’s recommended!
