STARTING NURSERY

My DS is starting at nursery for half a day next week, he is 2 months short of being 2! Any advice you could give me would be great! Is there anything I can do to prepare?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Has ds visited the nurery. Why only half a day a week? This might be too little at his age for settling in. As a minimum I would say two half days. Otherwise he may have trouble settling in as it is a long time from one half day session till the next the following week. Two sessions gives a bit more of a routine.

If you have to work then maybe a child minder might be better with a more homely environment.

is he used to being left with other people?

Do you know any other children starting that you can perhaps get him together with so he has a familiar face?

No he isn't used to being left with people, I was thinking of letting him stay for about an hour or so to start off with. We know the lady who is running the under 2's room. I don't work at the moment - off sick because of dodgy pelvis - 20 weeks pregnant too, so I thought it might be best to start him off at nursery so when the baby comes along in November I would have half a day looking after little one without DS running around - expecting to be wheelchair bound again.
We go to mother and toddler group now, might ask one of the mums where there little one's go and try get in there.
I could only get half a day at the nursery - there seems to waiting lists everywhere I ask!

My dd has just done her second visit to preschool that she starts in September. On both occasions she has stayed from 2pm until 3.15pm. She is a clingy child-and she settled very quickly.

Would def reccomend you start him gently.

He will be fine but just accept that the first two weeks may be hell.!!!
