As I am from South Africa I don't know how the school system here works. I know a new school year starts in September. But how does it work? when does my daugher need to go to school. I hear about children going to school in the beginning for 1 or 2 days?

Your daughter needs to attend in the term she turns 5...,

but most schools have a single admission so most children start in the September of the year they turn 5. Thus if your dd has a birthday between 09/04-08/05 she will start this year. Phone up your LEA for advice!

How old is your dd tasja?

Firstly she could go to a preschool which are sometimes attached to the infant and primary school.
There she would be able to do mornings, afternoons or full days. You would pick what days she did, be it 1 or 5.

Then when she reaches 4 or in some cases 5, she will then start infant school which is a full day 9-3pm/3:30. Although they may start her off doing half days so they can get used to it.

Your best bet is to call your local preschool and put her name down, then have a chat with them and they will let you know how it works. It does vary in different areas.

Oh 0 for school you apply the year before they start. For pre-school you might be able to put her name down now -depends upon the school!

What is LEA?

Local Education Authority.
But I would find your local Children's Information Service first. They can tell you everything you need to know inc what playgroups/pre-schools/nurseries are near you. Also local mum&baby/toddler groups too.
