Where did I come from?

My almost 4 year old Ds asked this this evening. I just said 'you came from mummy's tummy' which he seemed content enough with. However, what if he probes a bit more and asks how babies are made? I think he must have heard something or other children have talked about it at nursery today!
Look forward to what your responses were lol!

Answer him honestly, but on a level appropriate for his development.

Or make a joke and hope it diverts his attention and you can postpone the birds and the bees chat for a while.

I tell my DC we found them at the zoo.

Mummy and Daddy wanted a baby and then I grew you in my tummy. You were small and got bigger and bigger and then when you were big enough you came out... and kept getting bigger and bigger.

But that leaves out the really interesting bit, the bit they usually want to know....how did I get in there? and how did I get out?!
