LOL at the enterprising school charging for the lists.

but you can't do that, what about the new children poor sprogs, not only are they new but now to be excluded from the card ritual.

serenitynightholynight · 07/12/2006 16:57

Hopefully if they're new DS will remember them! He's in Yr 4 so it shouldn't be that hard....just asked him, newbies are Aidan, Shem and Abishek, so we're sorted

SantaGotStuckUpTheGreensleeve · 07/12/2006 17:02

I remember being really excited about the school Christmas post when I was little. Every card was exciting, it was a really important part of Christmas. Kids don't see things the way we do!

Although I suppose if you really don't want to bother it would be a waste of paper. Some people think all Christmas cards are a waste of paper.

Oh, i don't know

Spicedfennelwine · 07/12/2006 17:17

well Greensleeves if it's that exciting to them they can shift themselves into gear and get writing the cards themselves

I put one card in ds's best friend at preschool's message pocket explaining that ds really enjoyed playing with her son, but was leaving the preschool soon. I put my phone number on so he could come around to play.

She didn't phone

So I'm finished with cards.

foxtrottothefestivegrotto · 07/12/2006 17:23

bah humbug

Spicedfennelwine · 07/12/2006 17:25

wethreebobkings people are always losing messages put into book bags or drawers, it is quite likely a total accident that she never got or lost the phone number. or she might be just shy if she hasn't met you.

laneydaye · 07/12/2006 17:32

Tbh nailpolish you shouildnt feel pressured into it (ffs im a right bloody hypocrite) i just dont think its a big deal if you are lets say writing 10 cards for the class to do another 10 think of the little faces as they open the card....lol

SantaGotStuckUpTheGreensleeve · 07/12/2006 17:35

Oh yes, I do think they should do it themselves - I wouldn't do it for them, I'm not their bloody secretary . I will do it with them though, otherise my kitchen will look like holy hell and nobody will get a card....

unknownrebelbang · 07/12/2006 17:59

Mine are older now, but I'm quite happy to be thought of as tight and/or lazy.

I'm neither (very often, lol) but heyho, if that's what people think cos I can't be *rsed, fine.

Probably not that relevant to real discussion going on but I think there is technically a data protection issue with the school handing out class lists as its using personal data for a purpose that it wasn't orginally collected. I work for the local authority and I seem to remember being asked a similar question a few years ago and after a bit of research we had to tell the school that we would advise against it as it might go against DP (I know its unlikely that someone would complain and it seemed a bit of a miserable response to a well meaning idea). Having been at home now fort 8 months my DP knowledge needs a bit of a refresh so will happily stand corrected if anyone knows differently!!!! - thought I'd just add that one to the discussion pot!!!

alex8 · 15/12/2006 20:50

they've started doing it at my sons nursery class (3 &4 yr olds). Theres about 40 of them and I thought how stupid as only a handful can actually read or write. But my son has only got one card despite seeming to have a lot of friends. And twice I have picked him up in tears about it. So I took one of the class lists. Loads of kids must have middle names they use as the names on the list don't tally with the names on the pegs. My son cannot write his name so it will be me doing it. When I went through the list with him he said he liked everyone. It will probably be too late now to get him any back in return!

dd who goes to playgroup only wanted to write her friends. When I suggesated XXX to her as I thought he was also a friend, she said quite clearly NO, he is not my friend.
A friend from ds (5y) was handing over presents at school, which I thought was completely over the top. Also feel sorry for the ones that are left out...But looking at other threads it seems to happen quite a bit.
