ROFL @ mooncups! no-one will ever know. They will probably think they are recycled baby teats or something.....

QuadropheniaonIce · 07/12/2006 13:48

I asked for a list

my preschooler see's his older brother and sisters doing it and wants to join in, i have no idea who he plays with, other than one little boy so I asked for a list. I'm sure there is no pressure as such, clearly not everyone does it , but if you want to then you can.

nailpolish · 07/12/2006 13:49

hey i dont want to make anyone feel bad about asking for the list!

im not judging

Its probably mums like me who are to blame for the list phenomenom, so I feel guilt naily sorry

ParanoidSurreyHousewife · 07/12/2006 13:52

We had an "end of term arrangements" letter which included the fact that the Christmas Postbox was going out this week, but not to worry because staff would ensure that each child got at least 3 cards on the last day.

It's each to their own nailpolish. No-one is going to remember in January whether your child sent theirs a card or not .

QuadropheniaonIce · 07/12/2006 13:53

my ds year 2 doesn't get many cards, he's a quiet lad, so he took his carsd in early and handed them out so noone forgets him (obviously he doesn't know why he did it)

nailpolish · 07/12/2006 14:00

ach dont feel guilty

i, on the other hand, feel mean

at this!

DS2 can do cards for anyone he wants to at nursery. His first 3-4 names were children we would send to anyway (know the family etc).

Then he came up with about 4 more. Maybe if we get cards from people not on the list I?ll ask him. But there are about 70 children in nursery and many of them do full days so for all I know he is in at least 1 session with most of them. Blowed if we?re making that many cards!

(yes we made our cards but we do it because the kids love it and it keeps them quiet for long stretches in the run-up to Christmas.

Clary · 07/12/2006 14:13

Tho actually there is a list of nursery names posted inside the door if people wanted to check any.

ImaVeryMerryChristmasFairy · 07/12/2006 14:20

I ask for a list too....AND I write thank you cards. Can't see what the problem is peronally.

My, there are some miserable beggars around here at the moment

Bah humbug to you too!!!

Spicedfennelwine · 07/12/2006 14:59

The problem is (IMO) that a card written by someone else is meaningless. Like getting your secretary to write your love letters. If the parent is doing it in the name of the child, it's just another piece of work for mothers to do.

If the child does it, at least they get the effort and pleasure of doing something for a friend. and some handwriting practice.

MerryMegandSnowySoph · 07/12/2006 15:08

Yup got DD2's list last night Handed the cards in this morn for them to post tomorrow only 9 cards though, but still. I have asked dd1 in reception to write me a list of the frinds she wishes to give cards to as I think it's only fair now.

Their school is skinting me.

clumsymum · 07/12/2006 15:12

I wish ds's teacher had done this. Last night ds (7) and I made a list of everyone in his class. There are 27 children. Exclude him thats 26, but we can only get 26 names.

So either there is one nameless child, or a poor quiet, bland little soul that ds can't remember at all.

clumsymum · 07/12/2006 15:13

DOH, we can only get 25 names ......

SantaGotStuckUpTheGreensleeve · 07/12/2006 15:15

lets hope the two little timid souls are firm friends with one another then, clumsymum

I work in a playgroup and we have a lovely little post box - all the kiddies send cards and receive cards, it is great. It is how my 4 yr old practised spelling her name - along with the word "love" - rather nice to have that as the second word she could spell! Sending cards is all part of the Christmas tradition - and saves buying littel gifts for every playmate as a choc coin in with each card is enough.

If you are choosing not to do this (and of course you are well within your rights), it might be worth checking to see if everyone else is doing it as your little one may just feel a bit left out if they are not handing out cards and yet receiving loads..I know it is your choice and it isn?t really a big deal, but a pack of 25 cards in Asda is 99p...
I am surprised at the list thing but they might well have been asked by a couple of parents and thought they might as well supply one for all to be helpful, not realising it is a bit presumptious. Not really a big data protection thing to give out names is it? After all, there is no personal info like addresses or phone numbers being added..As it is the norm for all kids from playgroup upwards to send everyone a card round here, maybe it is the same round there and not really questionned.

laneydaye · 07/12/2006 16:12

lemon tart you can get a box from asda for £1 and a pack of 10 for around 17p.....

think its tight or lazy not to bother

nailpolish · 07/12/2006 16:13

hmmm i suppose you are entitled to your opinion laney but sending cards to children i dont know or my dd's dont know is a bit silly tbh, no?

OP posts:
laneydaye · 07/12/2006 16:15

right well thats fair enough but i thought these kids were all in the same class?

nailpolish · 07/12/2006 16:16

she isnt friends with all 20 of them

serenitynightholynight · 07/12/2006 16:22

I told DS1 to ask for a class list today (as he's insisting he wants to do cards for everyone) and he's come back with the message that they are 10p from the school office......... I'll see if I can find last years one (god, I'm tight )
