Pre-school education entitlement

Hope someone can help - I am in scotland and my son will be 3 in February which means he is entitled to a pre-school place from April.
Early last year I applied for a space at 4 local nurseries but the places were full as older children we're prioritised. So there were 2 nurseries left with space a LA one the other side of town and a private nursery which is very run down - so I took the place in the LA nursery, this was in October.
Today I received a letter from head teacher of LA school titled 'unsuccessful early years pre-school education place application session 2014-15' I called head teacher explaining this is the 5th nursery we had applied to and been unsuccessful, we applied before the deadline of 31st march 2014and the head teacher told me another child took priority over my son as the child is older although the child has only just put in an application. Anyway she said there are no spaces left in any of the nurseries in the area and therefore my son will have to wait until August.
I tried to contact the lady in charge of preschools in the area but she hasn't yet called me back so I'd like some advice to where I stand if anyone knows.
Thanks for taking the time to read :-)

If they don't have places then they can't give you one. Sounds like he will get a year from August though, is that right?

You can have two free years at nursery from August and hopefully get your choice. That's what I would do.

I'm in England. For reasons that suit our family our 3 year old has her 15 hours at a childminders. They follow eyfs but obviously there are fewer other children to socialise with! Could this be worthwhile until nursery place comes through?
