Hello, my son has a place at Newton Prepin Battersea to enter the nursery at 3 1/2years of age. I have been round and liked it, however some of the reviews have made me question if it is really what its made out to be. Does anybody have any experiences to share, good and bad? I have read some posts about the headmaster being a character, poor hygiene, and also posts about the new headmistress from this September.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

I would have thought that comments about the old head were no longer relevant? I think there are people around who don't like the school (same as anywhere else). I'm relatively nearby and have no personal experience I am afraid, so can't really help, but I understand that the facilities are excellent and the outcomes are good. I have heard good things about it, but whether every child is happy there, I really don't know. We may consider it at 7+

It is publishing full exit results which are similar to Thomas's. Bright children do pretty well, but a lot to boarding school. I used to think the school's emphasis on the gifted was odd - apparently the school is no longer only for the gifted, but I would still worry about a more average child being possibly neglected. It is also registered as a business. Personally I would choose Thomas's or Hill House instead, partly for the ethos and partly because I prefer family ownership to plain business ownership, but they are all similar schools in some ways and it may be that Newton Prep is right for you.
