Be gentle, I know nothing about phonics!

I have a preschooler due to start Reception this September. She knows all her numbers by recognition and some of her letters. I would like to help her get a bit more confident in writing numbers and letters. She loves sitting down and practising with a pen.

But - she is pronouncing her letters in the usual non-phonic way which is different to how she'll be taught at school. How can I get to grips with how to pronounce them to teach her? Are there some books/websites I can use? I have a Jolly Phonics work book but it doesn't really cover all the pronunciation.

And what would be the best way to help her with writing? Tracing or copying?

I am honestly too lazy to track them down, but there are quite a few websites that give basic idea (I like Starfall). Other thing is I really don't think you need to worry about it at all, because that's what school is there to teach them to do.

If you have an ipad or iphone I recommend "Hairy Letters" which has an animation for each letter, makes the phonic sound and then you can trace the letter (by 'splatting' the Hairy and using him to write over the dots - yuck)
