'learning' books - suggestions please

I am not quite sure how to describe what I am looking for. My dc is 3.5 and loves learning new names of things, or how the body works, where babies come from etc

I bought a dinosaur book yesterday from amazon, thinking she would live learning their different names, shapes, what they ate etc. however the book is really boring - quite dull pictures, and not really interesting child friendly facts. Every page just looks the same (it is little kids first big book of dinosaurs)

So can anyone suggest some good non fiction books, with interesting pictures and facts and info?

We have one I got from The Book People, called Thousands of Searches and is a compilation I think of the ones on that page. DS, who is a bit younger than yours, LOVES it so much he takes it to bed every night. Can't find it anywhere online though so perhaps they've discontinued it - but the thematic ones should also be good.

He basically just looks through all the pictures, independently or with me, its a bit like Where's Wally but with loads of different things to spot. But there's information about the different things to search for on each page so you can add as much or as little additional learning as you like.He's learned about 20 different dinosaur names from it, and what some of them eat etc, and tonight was talking about blue whales, beluga whales, minke whales.... etc etc. There are history pages about castles and things etc, which give basic info about the architecture and social structures etc, so things for every interest. It's also good for counting practice. I think it's such a great book I have bought a second copy as it will inevitably get really dog-eared and I think DS2 (baby now) may get a lot out of it eventually too!

Usborne generally have fab books - all sorts of different levels. I have always bought books that are slightly ahead of where DS is IYSWIM, because then he can grow into them and they last longer. He gets a lot out of the pics etc even if the content is a bit tricky. YY to the Look Inside series - we had a farm one from the library and I was impressed at the level of detail on things like planting harvesting, different cycles / seasons etc etc.

i would try having a browse in charity shops and see what catches your eye, or your childs, kids books are usually something they have loads of, plus points - there cheaper, you can have a good browse and help a charity.
