Top tips for carpet time...

All EYPs what are your top tips for carpet times in order to keep young children engaged etc, I am trying to write some top tips.

I use a song bag with the youngest children, with a toy representing each nursery rhyme - eg a bus for wheels on the bus etc. They choose a toy from the bag in turn and hold it throughout the group time. The bag only comes out at this time and so it is special every time.

I always used lots of puppets with my nursery class. Humour and good eye contact also worked for me. Always bear in mind though the age of the child + 2 minutes as a rough guide for concentration and attention span...
