hi there ... my lo is coming up to 6 months and I'm thinking about having a go at baby signing, but no idea where to start ! Has anyone tried this ? How did it work ? Can you recommend a good book to get us started ?

Thanks

Hi, my DD1 grew up with Justin Fletcher's something special and my DD2 is watching it now. DD1 communicated through sign before she could talk and DD2 is the same. It doesn't stop them developing their speach and they see it as fun game, just like doing actions to a song. I know what DD2 wants and she doesn't get frustrated trying to tell me what she wants.

I have been using Bamba with my lewis. It's a toy monkey which you use to teach baby signs. There's a DVD and a book which comes with it. A google search of bamba baby signing monkey should do the trick

DD has been brilliant at signing. It really took off when she was about 12 months and it has been a god send. We did sing and sign free at our local sure start.
A book we have is baby signing my first signs. This is a Childs play book which is a board book so baby can use it. I highly recommend it.

My dd absolutely loved baby signing when she was younger, and it was really great for helping her communicate. It didn't appear to hinder her learning to talk at all.

Should add, we did our baby signing at Sing and Sign classes, they have a website.
