Can anyone help? First interview I have had after months of applying. Have read up as much as I can and been into a local playgroup to help. I have not had an interview for 20 years! What are they likely to ask?

Many thanks

At a guess I'd say they'd cover stuff like:

  • Your knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework
  • Your understanding of child protection and safety
  • Your motivation for wanting to to work with children, and specifically children of this age-group
  • Your ideas for activities that could be done inside and outside at the setting
  • Your previous experience and how it relates to the job on offer
  • They might give you "scenarios" to see how you would deal with them eg If you felt another member of staff acted inappropriately towards a child how would you deal with the situation.
  • They might give you an EYFS learning area such as "Knowldge and understanding of the world" and ask you to think of an activity whch you could set up to cover that learning area.

Of course they may ask you none of this stuff! Good luck with the interview.

Thank you so much. Have hopefully covered all that so we will see.

Well I totally over prepared and was faced with interview questions such as "How do you think your colleagues will see you after a year?". No mention at all of curriculum, scenarios. Lasted less than 15 mins and was really disappointing. Have just heard I did not get the job because of lack of early years experience. Oh well, back to the drawing board but thanks for your help - I really enjoyed the preparation.
