for ds to tell me that preschool is yucky but for his keyworker to say that he is ok once I leave (DS goes 3 mornings a week) and only started 3 weeks ago. He has also started crying when I leave. Thanks

Most definately and it will get better my ds1 was the same and still is on occasion but I know he is happy and I fully trust the preschool

Why do they do that?

It could be for attention, it could be that he is not used to being without you, that he loves you so very much he doesnt want to be apart, also its a new situation and one that he needs time to get used to it and find his feet

Thanks. It makes sense. JUst don't like seeing him not happy.

My DD was exactly the same - I had to physically hand her over to a staff member but by the time I got to the end of the car park (about 20yds) they were shouting "She's fine"!

Perfectly normal - don't worry. And also don't worry if you think he's got over it and then it all starts again after the first holiday. That's normal too.

Well, it is normal but give it time. My son never settled, even after three terms. In the end I moved him to a different preschool where thankfully he is very happy. Give it a while longer but trust your instincts.
