hi there

this is my first post...so big hello to all. i have a 3 year old that goes to full daycare nursery for 5 days and from this september is now entitled to the nursery grant. My nursery apply this by charging me for 4 days instead of 5 for the whole year - apparantly this is permissable as i checked with FIS. However what they have done is now bill me at the 4 day rate per day which is about £5 per day higher than what i was paying for 5 days. This doesn't seem right to me. I was curious what experience any of you other mums out there had and how your respective nurseries/ pre schools apply the funding. Any help/ advice much appreciated. T

Can you clarify a bit more?

Your child is entitled to 15 hours per week for 38 weeks - or 11 hours over 52 weeks (I don't know if all Counties have applied it like this - ours has). Assuming you are on the 52 week contract, you have to claim the 11 hrs over a minimum of three days.

I can see this will cause problems for nurseries who use a different daily rate according to how many days you are registered for. But I thought that settings cannot charge differently for children who are in receipt of funding rather than those who are not which is essentially what yours is doing. How can they claim you should pay the 4 day rate when your child is there for five. Above all they have to have a transparent charging system.

Hope this helps

If they're getting paid for 5 days then they're taking the piss. What would they do if a couple split their bill with one parent paying one day and the other paying for 4? Would they charge them on the 4 day rate plus 1 day???
