Can anyone recommend the best trivet to use on top of a log burner to cook with please.
Most of the ones i have seen have rubber feet, or paint coatings and obviously that makes them useless for actually cooking with.
thanks

I have painted ones, they are usually enamel paint and I just removed the rubber feet and they have been fine. Have a look on ebay for vintage aga ones. Are you planning on using cast iron cookware?

Why is it not ok to just put a pan on the top? Does it just spread the heat out better so wouls boiling water without a trivet be ok but you kind of need it for cooking a stew?

Personally I do just that. The trivet just puts an air gap between the stove and the pan making it slower to cook, which could be useful in some circumstances. However, if you are re heating or cooking something in a heavy pan I don't find it necessary

Thanks both.
Ihad assumed it would burn / not cook evenly without so really good to hear that straight on top is superior
