What do you have in your "go" bag?

I'm trying to put together a bag that I can grab if I needed to evacuate my flat in any situation. I've got my passport, 3 days of underwear, a pair of leggings, a top, socks, my medication, painkillers, toothpaste, I need to buy a toothbrush as mine is electric.

What else is essential?

@Thecowssame, hence no crossbow but I am
intrigued as to what @Cuiriossir is planning for.

When would you need to evacuate your flat? What are you anticipating or worried about?

So far? Never my house. Evacuate while on holiday in a storm with surge front? Once. We was next to sea wall that predicted to collapse. Literally knock on the door and leave now.

Hospital trips to A&E and resus? Too many times. Being blue lighted in is rare but I was thankful for a bag each time. A&E has been often with 4 kids. Again, it's one less stress to know my charger, leads, a book, a pen and notepad is right there.

You do your bag for the emergency you think you are likely to encounter. So mine doesn't have passport or the like.

Not yet. If I was, tin foil might actually help after all the jokes, as I could make a impromptu Faraday cage.........
....... adds tin foil to Tesco list........

What scenario is there possibly going to be where you have to leave your house quickly but also have time to grab a bag?

Zombies, but only the lurchy kind. If it’s the scuttling kind we’re all screwed.

I am prepped for any eventuality that may require protecting/feeding my family. Land invasion, economic breakdown, insurgency, etc. 10 years ago all of these would seem ludicrous to have to consider. Not so much anymore.

@Cuiriossirso you prep bag is for an apocalyptic scenario. You don’t just have the bag with said crossbow sitting in the hall next to the shoes do you?!

It's next to my gun rack.

Would pets be allowed into the emergency accommodation?

In Florida during hurricanes, some shelters permit pets. The authorities recognise that some people will not leave a pet.

I have a cabin sized case with a wash bag, PJs, underwear, casual outfit and black trousers/black top outfit (as it’s mainly in case I need to get home from my overseas posting to bad news about elderly parents/MIL). My passport lives in my work backpack anyway. (I have another cabin sized bag that I use for my regular travels - this one is intended that I can walk in, grab it, and walk out to go straight to train station to get to the airport and buy tickets while I’m on the train…).

I really ought to get a proper go bag sorted.

Gloucestershire. Today. Security alert.

Coventry, last summer, UXB.

South coast, last week, also UXB.

We have complete 72 hour packs, kept in the front hall closet by the door ready to go.
It has food, water, first aid, shelter, lighting and photocopies of our important docs.
Also spare cash in five dollar denominations, extra food for the pets and a week of current meds.
We keep the cats travel cage there too.

We live on Vancouver Island in Canada, in an earthquake area, and right on the water where we are also in a tsunami zone too.

Currently there is a forest fire , two towns away. We are safe, but it is a reminder that go time can be any time.

On Vancouver Island i can understand your set up. When we visited I made sure I knew where the nearest evacuation areas were.

However, rightly of wrongly, in a suburban town in the UK I just don't feel the same possible danger.

I think this is where a list on your phone is just as good. All my phone leads, power bank and a plug is in my main handbag ( got a bigger bag for a day out and a tiny power bank kit for just popping out).

Even when we was told to leave immediately, no one forced us out. They didn't say why so we stayed. If you know where things are and have a list and empty back pack you can pack in minutes.

I dont even like the feeling of using a motorway with paracetamol and my power bank. The thought of being stuck in gridlock due to a crash, no phone and getting a migraine would bring one on. So its always with me. Unless im within five miles of home as that's about my limit for walking back.
