I was reading this morning and came across this article. Not sure if it's something to be worried about or another sensationalist headline but stuff like this petrifies me.

Bank of England boss predicts apocalyptic food costs

I have prepped for a long time but have basically run down my supplies to nothing as we are about to rip our house apart. Once the work is done I'll start building up my stores again and will have a lot more space to put things. I just find things like this quite worrying. I have a genuine fear of not being able to feed my kids. Do you think scenarios like this are likely?

Stocking up on chopped tomatoes while they are still 28pin Aldi.

It's all a bit stressful.

Tinned tomatoes and puree dehydrate well, and that can extend the shelf life by 2 years or more if you store them properly. You can remove about a quarter of the water by freezing them first, as they defrost you can drain off the water and you are left with a block of pulp.

Or you can buy tomato powder..

Of course you can buy tomato powder. But its also an option if you get a bargain buy of nearly out of date tins, or have some in your store that are near their sell by date.

Aethelfleda · 04/10/2022 20:45

surely if the tins are intact the “use by” date is irrelevent? Opening them up and trying to dehydrate the contents doesn’t make sense as you’re opening them up from a sealed enviroment…

Thelnebriati · 05/10/2022 12:27

Not if the tins are unlined and the contents are acidic, like tomatoes.

well, whatever strategy avoids food waste is good…
