I have a full stock of food in garage and medicine etc

I thought I was prepared

We lost power on Friday at 2pm and it might be another couple days before it's back due to the storm

We are all freezing

My husband wanted to instal a log burner but I said no due to environmental reason but now I'm thinking of changing my mind and I also want a small generator as it's been a nightmare having no phone to check what's happening with electricity etc on line

We ended abandoning the house due to the cold and going to stay else where.

Turns out im not that prepared after all

I like the idea of ‘bio lite’ also as stove and phone charger. You need to have dry wood though on hand

It’s so hard when infrastructure fails though. I have a gravity fed oil aga and two wood stoves. Heats all the main rooms downstairs and then heat funnels up and into bedrooms. Keeping the house warm becomes something that takes up all your time though. I hate it when the electric goes. You can get fire logs compressed sawdust that burns slowly over an hour or two so you get that cosy fire look of an evening without burning lots of wood.

It was! Huge relief and so nice to have warmth and light again. Feel sorry for the 3,000 households still without- some of whom still dont even have a target date yet.
