A lot of us have been here before. We Prepped for Brexit. Some of us are Heathcare workers. We prepare for the worst every day. It's difficult to predict what will happen in our lives. In our lifetime. Will we get Cancer? Will a huge meteorite wipe the world out?

One thing is for sure, this new virus is either affecting us, or is going to affect us all very soon. You are all already onboard. I hope you are prepared and much as you can be. And in the meantime this thread is here to support us all.

This week will bring many new challenges. We are almost certain to have some sort of lockdown. Like other parts of Europe. We aren't special. We aren't different. We are all
fragile souls. But I hope we live to tell the tale.

God Speed.

sprayitall this is the link I put to an ebay seller on the last thread. There are quite a few sellers though at very dfferent prices - so if you put the details of this one on a search it should bring up a selection.

For those asking about children's masks, Cambridge Masks do a 'small' size (don;t know if they have any left in stock at the moment but they seem to be taking pre orders) Their masks have drawstrings at the bottom (elasic ones like on a coat) so you can alter them to fit and draw them in under the chin.

Had an anxious night worrying about my parents - neither would survive this if they got it. I veer between feeling calm and practical and bloody terrified at the moment!

Morning all,

Thanks for recommendations and suggestions for Home Ed. I really appreciate it.

DD has demanded we go to the park today. She initially wanted to go to soft play Confused but I soon closed that conversation down.

I'm happier going to the park, ours is lovely and very quiet, so naturally social distancing IYSWIM. Plus it will blow the cobwebs away!

We're watching the news, and I said to DH that it feels like the govt are playing Chicken at the minute.

MrsWhites · 15/03/2020 09:11

Morning all, checking in for the new thread.

Stocked up on some fresh veg yesterday, there was no frozen available in my local supermarket.

One thing that has never occurred to me to buy extra is sanitary products and now the shops don’t seem to have any left. I have a couple of packs but will need them next week so that is something I need to find this week. I am considering buying the reusable ones online, I’ve thought about mooncups but I don’t think I would get on with one of them.

Also reading this morning that Matt Hancock has been distancing himself from the herd immunity headlines. Have they realised it’s an awful plan or are they just reacting to the outcry?

MacronsPensWiper · 15/03/2020 09:11

Doneaflit... That's exactly my worry too.

Not being able to access help.
My doctor wouldn't give me anything for the future, should my daughter have anything chest related he said '' we would need to see her ''. I told him how hard it was to see him that day, heavily triaged because its 'respitory'!!

He said its doctors discretion. Again I'm surprised doctors arnt being instructed to help people help themselves and stay out of the system at the moment.

FloggingMoll · 15/03/2020 09:13

Morning. I've shared links to educational resources on this thread, not sure if they'll help anyone.

If schools get closed how to teach subjects from home www.mumsnet.com/Talk/secondary/3847907-If-schools-get-closed-how-to-teach-subjects-from-home

Has anyone else noticed that the pubs in their town are packed? DH was out yesterday and every single one he passed was filled to the gunnels.

Oxyiz · 15/03/2020 09:14

Had a difficult time this morning where I was feeling really breathless, and oximeter showed range 96-97. I get this occasionally and it's often acid reflux, so after a few rennies my breathing went back to normal, and the oximeter is showing 99 again.

It's always a horrible sensation though, and I really hope I don't get the severe version of this virus with it, or have to watch DH struggling to breathe again like when he had flu.

And on that note I'm going to keep on, and maybe go for a walk outside to get some fresh air.

Toomuchnotenough · 15/03/2020 09:15

tryingtoprep thanks for sharing the link, what a clever idea I think that will be really useful for people to know. My understanding is that it is a replacement for a spacer device (no idea if that’s the correct term) whereas a nebuliser is more like a steamer which uses saline or medicine.

Oxyiz · 15/03/2020 09:17

You can buy saline from amazon.

Minimalista · 15/03/2020 09:23

Just wanted to say thank you for all the advice on these threads; I've been following them from the start and am now more or less fully prepped. Just in time, in fact, as DH is having to self-isolate for the next two weeks as there's been a confirmed case where he works. I'm still allowed to go out but will try to stay away from the shops for as long as possible (obviously will have to do so if DH has any symptoms).

Here in Austria, all non-essential shops and services are closed (supermarkets, chemists, banks, etc. are open, and restaurants and cafes are allowed to open until 3pm). Teaching has been suspended, although schools and kindergartens are staying open for parents who don't have childcare for children under 14. And the government has just announced even more drastic measures - no more gatherings (previously, indoor gatherings of up to 100 people were allowed), playgrounds and sports fields closed, and they've banned people from yet more countries (including the UK) from entering Austria.

I heard on the news yesterday that if they hadn't introduced the measures now in place (remote working where possible, teaching at universities and schools suspended, etc.), all the critical care beds would have been full within two weeks. Shock

Onceuponatimethen · 15/03/2020 09:33

Can I just say a huge thank you to those recommending the app Nest Egg on other threads!

I’ve just inventoried all my stores using it and it makes it so much easier to see what we have and keep track of what to replace

Sprayitall · 15/03/2020 09:35

@84TinsOfBeans thank you for your reply. Yes I am with you .. i don’t want to kill slugs by poisoning them. The plan we have discussed now is to put the plants on a table away from wall in the patio and put slug tapes and wires with low volt batteries so it will just deter them climbing on to them at the first place. Let’s see how it goes

MoonlightMistletoe · 15/03/2020 09:37

Morning all,

Just have a question about the over 70s self isolation. What would the situation be if in one household there was an over 70, 50yo, 20yo and a 6month old baby living there? Would it only be effective if all members of the household self isolated together because I'm worrying that the over 70yo would be at risk if she done it alone with the others coming in an out of the house.
The 50yo goes socialising in groups for mental health and also the gym which is riddled with body fluids so I'm really worrying about the eldest member of family.

EstherLittle · 15/03/2020 09:37

I had no idea that there was a prepper board!

I am fully stocked with food, dog food and meds.

Made the mistake of going into our local big Sainsbury’s to try and get school trousers for DD2 and it had been picked clean apart from the fruit and veg section.

Sprayitall · 15/03/2020 09:40

@Onceuponatimethen i tried the nest egg lite version but it wasn’t very helpful as it hangs up often. Is the full version good?

colouringinpro · 15/03/2020 09:41

ffp2 masks better than nothing if caring for family member? though chances of catching it while they're not symptomatic have to be significant?

Sprayitall · 15/03/2020 09:47

The teachers union bosses have now spoken up which gives me a little hope . I think the teachers should be shielded more by running only skeletal services for kids who are children of front line workers.

Onceuponatimethen · 15/03/2020 09:49

@Sprayitall it really is much better!

buckeejit · 15/03/2020 09:51

@MrsWhites any of the reusable pads will be fine. Or there are some diy vids on YouTube. However the 'honour your flow' products are the best I've bought.

Sprayitall · 15/03/2020 09:51

Thank you - downloading it. I found out nowaste app is good for my food cupboard

Posharmchairs · 15/03/2020 09:56

@MrsWhites I use reusable wipes, pads and nappies.

The pads are great, for either periods or light incontinence.

I recommend the “Nora” range from bloom and Nora. They are very slim, have a stay dry fabric and stay in place.

Imse vimse also do an organic cotton range which feels more like cotton knicker fabric but does feel damp if not changed regularly. Ideal for using as a liner for any pelvic floor mishaps though!

Cheeky wipes are fantastic for little hands and faces.

Posharmchairs · 15/03/2020 09:58

I have been baking myself calm. Listening to Rev Kate on R2 and watching small get excited because it’s raining so dh has been kicking a ball around with him indoors. I might regret it when something gets broken but for now the smiles, laughter and smell of spiced loaf cake are lifting my spirits.

wheresmymojo · 15/03/2020 10:05

I baked banana bread yesterday with a couple of bananas that had gone overripe and just about to have a slice with my tea Smile

Veneto I will definitely not be overdoing the jogging! I'll be doing C25k but am so unfit that I will need to start at -3 weeks (so doing week one but only running every third time they say run!).

I normally work in a very stressful, long hours, big commute type job so using this time of being unemployed to kick bad habits that I find hard to do when in stress mode. Have given up Diet Coke so far which doesn't sound like a big deal but I was drinking 1-2 litres a day!

Moving more is my next 'thing'.

colouringinpro · 15/03/2020 10:09

moonlight it woukd be most effective if the household were to self isolate.

One aspect of the situation in North Italy is that many families life three generations under the same roof, so kids (often) have brought the virus home.

Something for you to discuss.

My ex comes into our house regularly. I am considering more significant measures (above hand washing on arrival) e.g. total change of clothes, shower even though that will go down like a tonne of bricks!)

colouringinpro · 15/03/2020 10:11

posh that sound lovely
am doing my best to visualise (and smell)!

Whoever was going to start jogging - please don't! Go for fast walks, an hour at a time. Much, much less danger of injuring yourself. No-one wants to have to go to hospital at the moment.
