A lot of us have been here before. We Prepped for Brexit. Some of us are Heathcare workers. We prepare for the worst every day. It's difficult to predict what will happen in our lives. In our lifetime. Will we get Cancer? Will a huge meteorite wipe the world out?

One thing is for sure, this new virus is either affecting us, or is going to affect us all very soon. You are all already onboard. I hope you are prepared and much as you can be. And in the meantime this thread is here to support us all.

This week will bring many new challenges. We are almost certain to have some sort of lockdown. Like other parts of Europe. We aren't special. We aren't different. We are all
fragile souls. But I hope we live to tell the tale.

God Speed.

Thank you @VenetoResident and we're thinking of you and wishing you the best.

I've just been looking at the comorbidities which put people at higher risk. The government is signalling those people will also be asked to self isolate when over 70s are.

Does anyone know if the hypertension and diabetes referred to are controlled or uncontrolled?

BlackeyedSusan · 15/03/2020 18:29

Where is the list of comorbidities?

Toughmonkeys · 15/03/2020 18:44

It's definitely getting more stressful here. My daughter is struggling to get enough shifts at work , the head office are telling the managers to cut shifts right down and she might lose her flat as she won't be able to pay her rent and we are unable to help her financially though she could come home to stay it makes work almost impossible. It seems to be going downhill quite fast.

MrsWhites · 15/03/2020 18:52

I’m confused with today’s figures? I seen posts earlier saying 232 new cases today but the regional breakdown charts say 330 new cases. Total cases 1,391.

Am I missing something really obvious here?

pemberlyshades · 15/03/2020 18:53

Because I was off work last week and the kids went into childcare my work have said I have effectively completed the 7 day isolation and so can work this week- albeit from home.
The problem is I had already informed the school and preschool to not expect the kids in next week due to self isolation.
Our coughs have gone now and I feel totally fine.
I can keep them off but will be expected to attend various meetings in the office.
Or do I phone the school tomorrow and explain work are happy that I have completed the self isolation period and therefore don't need to keep the kids away?

If it helps I work for a govt organisation and this is official advise from my department manager who discussed it with my line manager on Friday.

pemberlyshades · 15/03/2020 18:54

@blackeyedsusan I think it's on the worldometer website

pemberlyshades · 15/03/2020 18:56

We have had no temperatures and the my symptoms (sore throat and then a dry cough) started last Monday. Got better from Thursday onwards. The kids have been completely normal, albeit the youngest has a cough but has had that for about 3 weeks.

wheresmymojo · 15/03/2020 19:08

@MrsWhites

I think the 232 number is England and the total number includes Wales and Scotland that do a seperate daily update..

wheresmymojo · 15/03/2020 19:09

@Toughmonkeys

What kind of business does your DD work in?

So many people will be in the same position.

We have 6 weeks of money left max and only £800 per month coming in and £5k outgoings...

MrsWhites · 15/03/2020 19:25

@wheresmymojo thank you! I knew it would be something obvious that I was missing!

MrsWhites · 15/03/2020 19:27

Sorry to hear of those undergoing financial difficulties already. Let’s prey that the government finally see sense and put some serious measures in place to help people in this situation!

BlackeyedSusan · 15/03/2020 19:31

Was trying to find out whether asthma was on the list, specifically.

Blueberryham · 15/03/2020 19:52

If the comorbidities include things like mild asthma then there will be so many households trying to self isolate for 4 months. Potentially half the households in the uk (this is a guess I haven’t actually looked it up)

BlackeyedSusan Is this any help?

bobbbbby · 15/03/2020 20:03

My 7 year old has developed a cough today and temp of 38.3 this evening :-( Everyone else ok atm. Obviously I will keep her off school, but do I keep my 3 yr old home from pre-school as well? My gut says yes, absolutely I should but then he will be in close proximity to his sister. Can't seem to see any advice about siblings etc.

Toughmonkeys · 15/03/2020 20:05

wheresmymojo she works at Burger King , one of the busiest in the country. It's worked well as she is also studying. It was bad enough last week when she had to take food back with her as the supermarkets had empty shelves.

Orchidflower1 · 15/03/2020 20:09

@bobbbbby I would as it’s been suggested children can carry whilst being asymptomatic. Also what would you do with your older one- they can’t come out. Tbh it’s only a matter of time before whole houses stay in.

permanentlyfrazzled1 · 15/03/2020 20:09

For those struggling to get toilet roll, I’ve just managed to order some off eBay. It’s the large, blue rolls you often get in public toilets, so it won’t fit in our holders at home, but it can sit on the floor. 6 large rolls for £13.99, free delivery Wed-Thurs this week.

Orchidflower1 · 15/03/2020 20:10

I’ve twitched and got powdered milk. Nado I think it’s called. Coming with my regular shopping order later in the week. I think it’s made by nestle. Has anyone tried it? Is it vile? I’ve got chocolate flavour straws for the dc in case it tastes rank!

Readyme · 15/03/2020 20:15

@bobbbbby he's already been exposed living with her. Th e best you can do not is keep them both home in isolation.

Sprayitall · 15/03/2020 20:16

Thank you all for your inputs. I think I will call to let them know. Dd loves her school and to keep her at home breaks my heart.
The numbers are not helping my anxiety and the inaction makes me furious. went offline for sometime to channel my emotions and had a productive day. Scrubbed the kitchen today and realised I need to organise it more often. does anyone know if we can keep buying fruits or does it pose a risk as it will be mostly eaten raw? fruits like melons and orange are not covered usually so that’s making me think

Orchidflower1 · 15/03/2020 20:18

@permanentlyfrazzled1 just be careful with your drains with the blue tissue. It doesn’t break down well. DH has it in his work van and we used it to clean up after a kids party. I flushed some away and ended up calling out homeserve to unblock our drains!

Maybe do the continental thing and have a bin next to the loo if you’re going to use it for toilet roll.

Pebble21uk · 15/03/2020 20:28

Orchidflower1 - is it Nido - big yellow tin? If so, it's definitely the best of the bunch - tastes much better than UHT - especially is you make it up in advance and chill it like regular milk.
