How long does bottled water last?

I bought some at the beginning of the year - big 5l bottles and stored it in the shed. Unfortunately the shed does change temp as has big windows along the side. Is it any good to use? Should I just use for the garden and start over?

It’s the plastic that expires, not the water. Once past use by date I save mine but mark up as “use for cleaning only”. Ie not good for drinking.

Water purification tablets or a drop of bleach (you will need to look up how much bleach for how many litres of water) for boat tanks are good if you have a sealable water butt. Lasts longer than bottled water.

We have this Katadyn pocket filter for emergancies and wilderness trecking, however we also have an in line filter for our off grid living.

Another idea for water is an unexpected one and that is our dehumidifier! Pulls water out of the air and then it can be purified as normal with either heat or tablets.

Water in the summer,
To make a simple solar still is to have two small blow up paddling pools one upright and filled up with water (sea water, brackish/river water) with an empty bucket in the middle. The other paddling pool upside down on top of the uprigh one with a stone in the middle on top. The water will heat up in the sun, and evaporate. The evaporated water hits the plastic on the top paddling pool, condenses and runs down into the middle were the stone is, then drips into the bucket.

Anyway some ideas Grin
