Wow I need to up my game
Started yesterday

Iceland order of frozen fruit and vegetables

PerverseConverse · 08/01/2019 18:15

Cripes! I've got hot chocolate powder (x2), 400 tea bags, and some red split lentils Blush I've only just started though. Planning on adding extra frozen veg to what's in the freezer. I've not got masses of storage space for things. I've started looking at where the things I buy come from the help inform my choices.

Passata
Pasta
Rice
Long life milk
Baked beans
Tinned fruit
Toiletries
Laundry detergent/softener/dishwasher tablets
Cranberry sauce
Ketchup
Custard powder
Frozen veggie/quorn products

TeaByTheSeaside · 08/01/2019 18:18

Thanks OP. That's an excellent list which I shall use myself.

I have a small stockpile but am planning on stocking up with a vengeance from now.

ZenNudist · 08/01/2019 18:20

I have tonnes of stuff anyway. Just copied this list as ideas for tinned purchases or freezer/ fresh frozen ideas.

What are you going to do to cycle through it all? At some point youre going to have to eat it all down (assuming catastrophe doesnt happen)?

higglypiggly · 08/01/2019 19:07

It’s all things I use anyway (other than the tinned curries etc) so when things get within 2 months of date (I have a list in date order) I buy new and eat the old.

The tinned curries are just useful to have as they can be eaten cold if the power is out, or the gas hob isn’t available.

Some cool stuff. I need to do an inventory!

perhapstomorrow · 09/01/2019 00:23

I have no idea on how much we need. I have 3 dc and dh. So far have the following but need to convince dh to get extra freezer for meat and frozen veg. Also, have extra vegetable seeds to grow.

3 jars pesto
3 Jars French mustard
6 jars olives
4 jars red peppers
2 jars capers
4 bottles Olive oil
Various vinegars
3 large bottles of kethup
2 bottles mayo
1 bottle chilli sauce
2 bottles sunflower oil

Selection of yeast/bicarb etc
Selection of nuts and dried fruit
2 packets oats
4 packets breakfast cereal
Selection of detergents/household cleaning products
Sanitary products
Tea/coffee/hot chicolate
Costco bulk bought toilet roll

As I said. I don't know how long this would last for and what I would cook with it!! Suspect I need more veg (2 veggies in house) and meat. I also have a good selection of herbs and spices.

perhapstomorrow · 09/01/2019 00:25

Sorry - it was supposed to be a list. The formatting has disappeared!

perhapstomorrow · 09/01/2019 00:43

Forgot to add 4 packs of noodles
8 packets of tortillas
4 packs stir fry sauce
6 tins coconut milk

StuntEgg · 09/01/2019 00:52

Too much to list here in full, but I'm trying to get together 3 months' worth, to feed three adult humans (including two male teenagers/human dustbins) and three cats. Stash so far includes:

13 kg rice
10 kg pasta
40 tins tomatoes
25 boxes cereal
55 tins of soup
60 stock cubes
6 tubes tomato puree
20 tinned tuna/mackerel
5 tins corned beef
12 jars curry sauce
tinned, dried and frozen onions
frozen peppers
other tinned vegetables
and more.

Plus
22kg dry cat food
350 packets wet cat food
320 portions cat treats

1000 tea bags
1 jar coffee
2 tubs hot chocolate powder

200l water.

Is anyone else keeping a note of costs? I've spent just under £900 so far. Thankfully most is what we buy anyway, apart from some of the tinned stuff and the water, so if not required then it's cheap shopping for a couple of months and lots of tins to donate to the foodbank.

StuntEgg · 09/01/2019 01:01

Forgot the non-food stuffs:

100 toilet roll
32 kitchen roll
10 bubble bath
10 x 16 pack paracetamol
10 x 16 pack ibuprofen
large bottle gaviscon
24 household candles
150 tea candles
matches
spare batteries for torches/lanterns
anti-bacterial wipes
champagne

Evidencebased · 09/01/2019 07:49

Wow incredible preparation.

One suggestion- try not using water from the tap, bottled water only for 24hrs. You’ll find you really need more than you have.

And if you think waters likely to be a problem, plan your toilet ideas.

jinglewithbellson · 09/01/2019 08:04

What are you guys stock piling for??

cloudtree · 09/01/2019 08:59

atm mainly brexit and cold weather problems.

bellinisurge · 09/01/2019 09:20

Me also @cloudtree . Cold weather and Brexit. Both of which are likely to happen.

jinglewithbellson · 09/01/2019 09:34

So people are stockpiling food etc in case of price hikes?

cloudtree · 09/01/2019 09:36

Partly but also and more significantly, because of the anticipated supply chain issues which would mean food availability problems in the period following 29th March (and potentially in the weeks running up to B-Day too)

perhapstomorrow · 09/01/2019 23:26

Same reasons as @cloudtree. DH has agreed to get an extra freezer (mainly bebcause he's worried about the lack of meat)! So will be adding to my supplies over the next few weeks.

Struggle to find fault with that @AvocadosBeforeMortgages . Even saw choc and sweets.Grin.
I'd suggest looking at stuff like books and board games etc to stave off boredom but that's only to be picky and I bet you already have entertainment covered.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 10/01/2019 12:31

Amazing lists - when you have stuff to stave off boredom...won't we be doing normal stuff like watching tv etc? Why will we be bored?

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 10/01/2019 12:37

@Bellini

Entertainment is a bit of an unfilled category for me so far. If electricity and Internet is fine, I'm fine. However, I live alone so board games are a non starter! I must charge up the Kindle. If all else fails, DDog will be getting non-stop walkies to stave off boredom.

Nanasueathome · 10/01/2019 12:40

But where do you store it all?

I’ve got quite a good stock of things I use in a regular basis and I top this up when I use something but some of these lists are massive and would need a selerate room for storage

Nanasueathome · 10/01/2019 12:40

Separate room.......

cloudtree · 10/01/2019 12:41

kitchen cupboards?
loft?
Garage?

behind the sofa?
under beds?
on top of kitchen units?
behind kitchen kick boards?
shed?

Usually plenty of places if you think about it.
