Please, can you critique my prepping plan? Is there anything we are missing?

FOOD,
Our kitchen cupboards are normally reasonably stocked with at least a week of food at any one time. We have a 6ft chest freezer and a regular freezer stocked with meat (Venison and Pork) and leftovers. We will use this first. We have approximately 2 weeks of food here. Our Second level is pressure canned food, we have a mix of venison, and vegetable sauces, here we have approximately 2 weeks of food.
Our final level is shop bought cans and dried food again another 2 weeks of food so that gives us a total of 7 weeks of food in the house. Plus 30kg of dog food, for the dogs.

In addition to this we grow our own vegetables and keep chickens.

WATER
We have 113L of water stored, with the capacity to store an additional 120L. We also have our own well and electric pump

SANITARY
I make my own soap and bath products, I guess we are short on loo roll

POWER
We have a 5000w generator and a 1200 generator. The bigger generator is powerful enough to run the fridge, freezer, well pump and a couple smaller items.
FUEL
We have a wood burner for heat, we have 1 acer of woodland at home and 120 acres of woodland 20 miles from home. We store 30-40L of petrol, and 4-5 propane tanks for the BBQ/propane heater

SPARES
DH Keeps a set of basic spare parts for both cars, ATV's Chainsaw, Mower and other items around the house. We should be able to repair the majority of things at home.

DEFENSE
We have firearms for hunting which can be used. We store 200 bullets per gun ready, and have the equipment and supplies to manufacture our own ammunition (additional 300 bullets per gun)

GO BAGS
We each have a go bag, with basic survival items, 24hrs of food and medical supplies. We also have all our important documents scanned and stored on USB. Each Car also has additional survival items and a tool/spares kit.

MEDICAL
Comprehensive first aid kit with dressings, plasters. Military battle dressings
Burn Kit
Suture Kit
Dental kit
Meds including paracetamol, aspirin, ibuprofen, Imodium. We also have prescription antibiotics and painkillers.

MISCELLANEOUS
Police scanner/walkie talkie type radios
AM/FM radio
Spare mobile phones
Geiger counter
Alcohol and cigarettes for trading
Vegetable seeds for the vegetable garden (2 years worth)

What exactly are you prepping for?!
Unless you are going to rotate all of this, won’t it just go out of date?

PoisonousSmurf · 31/07/2018 16:33

I take it you are a red neck living in the backwoods of the USA?
Have fun living a fantasy of survival.
When the real sh!t hits the fan, everyone will come and take your stuff.
Numbers will always conquer any prepper.

PestymcPestFace · 31/07/2018 16:35

That's a pretty thorough list. Only thing missing seems to be body bags Grin

RedneckStumpy · 31/07/2018 16:41

TheCrowFromBelow

All food is rotated annually, we are prepping primarily for weather related interruptions, and civil unrest.

One thing you've forgotten...
What about the 'Bisley Alarm Mines'. Very important!

cloudtree · 31/07/2018 16:51

Is a good proportion of your frozen meat cooked? If not, I'd say that's a weakness.

PestymcPestFace · 31/07/2018 16:53

We had no electricity for 10 days once. Could still access shops etc. Our prudent buy was an extra fire blanket and a new fire extinguisher.

An in-house flu epidemic proved that it is easy to under estimate how many paracetamol and tissues can be got through in a relatively short space of time.

Cyw2018 · 31/07/2018 16:57

@DuchessThingy

Always remember to double tap!!

In all seriousness my preppers plan for Brexit is to have enough to last a month (I figure 2 weeks worth for before brexit when people who haven't prepped start to panic buy and clear the shelves, and 2 weeks after Brexit until things settle), and then a few months worth of multi vitamins and minerals just in case of fresh produce supply chain issues, and then just make sure all my usual bulk buy stuff (cleaning stuff/ laundry powder/loo roll/ dog food) is stocked up before Brexit.

Nanasueathome · 31/07/2018 17:02

Well that puts mine to shame

Rope.....you forgot the rope

RedneckStumpy · 31/07/2018 17:05

It is right now, we have enough fuel for the generator to last 10 days. I am slowly moving over to pressure canning the meat.

PoisonousSmurf I have 3 huskies, they are an effective alarm!

Nanasueathome good point!

Duct tape. You need duct tape.

Snog · 31/07/2018 17:34

Sorry to be dim but could someone please enlighten me as to what this topic is about?

cloudtree · 31/07/2018 17:36

Its about being prepared for emergency situations snog. Whatever they happen to be. Its particularly active at the moment due to the imminent Brexit notices which are apparently to be issued to industry and allegedly to households.

Nanasueathome · 31/07/2018 17:40

I don’t have a baseball bat but I have a damn good shovel
Do you think that would be ok?

Nanasueathome · 31/07/2018 17:40

Would save me having to go out and get a baseball bat

sparklepops123 · 31/07/2018 18:00

You're not from Yorkshire are you 😬

RedneckStumpy · 31/07/2018 18:26

Snog

We. (On this board) like to be organized and prepared for situations that may arise. I am asking for any suggestions if equipment/tools/supplies that I should have on hand.

OP posts:
RedneckStumpy · 31/07/2018 18:26

I am not from Yorkshire, I am British, I live in NE USA.

bellinisurge · 31/07/2018 19:38

Sounds like you are looking into pressure canning which is what I would've suggested as an alternative to the freezer.
Because you are in the US, take a look at Doug and Stacey and also Guildebrook Farm on YouTube. They are homesteaders so resilience and being off-grid is more their thing. All really chilled out amiable people. Little if no politics. Prepper Pot Pourri who is in Michigan is also good. She's lovely too.

bellinisurge · 31/07/2018 19:39

As for tools, I'm guessing you have stuff in to collect and process wood.

bellinisurge · 31/07/2018 19:48

Also, not sure how old you are but do you have/need sanitary towels/tampons? If so, now might be a good time to look at reusables like a moon Cup and/or cloth pads.
Can't remember what laundry options you have but a washboard might be an idea if you are looking long term.

RedneckStumpy · 31/07/2018 19:55

I use a mooncup already. And yes we have chainsaws, axe’s for wood processing.

Thanks for the YouTube ideas!
