I was just going to say - there's loads of them, Stratter5. Here's an example. Go for a wander on the net?

You don't need Mountain House, just stock up on canned stuff when you see it at a good price, or slip a few extra in whenever you shop, it soon builds up. As long as there's no dents, it will last a good long time.

Off to peruse wind up lanterns.

Just bought some water 2 x 5l from Waitrose @ £1.10 each. It's a start! Also a pack of Waitrose essential candles.

ScrappyMalloy · 13/11/2015 12:31

I bought one 5l bottle this morning (not W aitrose though, only Tesco Grin ) , and some more tins. And batteries!

ISpidersmanYouMeanPirate · 13/11/2015 13:58

We had a power cut last night...for all of 40 seconds. Just long enough for us to have to reset our digital clocks Angry

However, another one for 45 minutes today reminded me that all my torches are in my OFRS - must put at least one somewhere else! Although I usually have my phone with me so can use that whilst getting a real one.

My windup lantern is ordered and on its way Smile

Just want to give another heads up for the sawyer water filter or the sawyer mini - I've been filtering at least a litre or two everyday with the sawyer mini and the water comes out crystal clear compared to the somewhat cloudy tap water I get. That volume is fine, even though the gadget is tiny, but if I'd known what a useful bit of kit it was I'd have bought the bigger filter.

I love the waitress prepping, there really is no need to let standards slip in a SHTF situation Grin

cozietoesie · 13/11/2015 17:55

...there really is no need to let standards slip in a SHTF situation...

OK - admit it. Who would try to sneak some cosmetics into their bag? Grin

atticusclaw2 · 13/11/2015 18:12

Im not going anywhere without mascara!

atticusclaw2 · 13/11/2015 18:13

waitrose not waitress. I would like to be comfortable in any emergency situation but don't need a personal waitress.

ScrappyMalloy · 13/11/2015 18:19

I have mascara, Aussie shampoo and conditioner AND moisturiser in my rucksack. I thought everyone did Blush

cozietoesie · 13/11/2015 20:31

Scrappy

If it's a 72 hour blip, you can leave the hair until power is restored. If it's to be longer, I'd scrap the separate bottles and get yourself some generic 2in1. You don't need to be standing washing in a cold mountain stream and having lots of different bottles to juggle. (I've been there.)

Short, sharp, clean yourself and out again is the mantra if it's SHTF.

BiddyPop · 16/11/2015 08:44

That is possibly a situation where the dry shampoo, awful though it normally is, could come into its own not needing any power or water. I do have a travel size in my small bag, and a regular sized one in my "ready to grab" area.

And a couple of pack towels are in my stash as well.

atticusclaw2 · 16/11/2015 09:55

Maybe we need a thread about which beauty products would be best in a SHTF scenario. I vote for Max factor Aqualash mascara. Nothing is shifting that.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 16/11/2015 10:18

I just need a good moisturiser because I have very dry skin, eyeliner because my eyes are quite pale, and tweezers brcause I can't stand unruly eyebrows. I wouldn't be high maintenance when the Shtf Smile

atticusclaw2 · 16/11/2015 11:33

God my eyebrows would be massive if the SHTF.

This requires some serious prepping planning. I might have to put four pairs of tweezers into the stockpile!

Stratter5 · 16/11/2015 12:11

I am SO thankful I'm blonde, and have bugger all eyebrows. I think I might be able to get away with no make up, and I'm definitely not wearing mascara whilst running away from zombies; imagine the pain when it runs in your eyes.

atticusclaw2 · 16/11/2015 12:17

No see that's why you need waterproof mascara. Mine just doesn't budge, I can even wear it when swimming without any risk of smudging or running. Being chased by hoarded of zombies is simply not a good enough excuse to let standards slip (although I might agree to sacrifice the stilettos) Grin

atticusclaw2 · 16/11/2015 12:18

Having said that, a stiletto through the brain is a valid zombie disposal mechanism...

Stratter5 · 16/11/2015 12:28

No, not going to happen. Even waterproof falls off eventually, what if it fell off into my eyes just when I need to be able to see clearly.

I suppose I'd better clarify that I really do not think there will ever be a genuine 'zombie situation'. For the lurkers.

warmastoast · 16/11/2015 15:21

Judging by the lack of excess female body hair on TWD I'm assuming the ladies all prepped for the apocalypse by getting laser hair removal in advance Wink

Stratter5 · 16/11/2015 16:36

Haven't we all? Grin
