So, do you reckon I could buy bottled water in the large containers and store it in the motorhome until next year, and it would be ok? It's dark and chilly in there over the winter.

We would use it anyway in the spring and summer on our travels and days out so would be rotated. Could that work, do you think?

Zetetic · 12/11/2015 14:57

Looks like that would be fine. Differing opinions by experts on expiry dates (www.living-water.co.uk/blog/does-bottled-water-expire/).

Why not store it for a year in dark place and then use / replace. Or - buy a food grade container and use tap water / replace every now and then?

Zetetic · 12/11/2015 14:58

Try again

ScrappyMalloy · 12/11/2015 15:03

Thank you for that Smile

I will be stocking up on water tomorrow, then!

Stratter5 · 12/11/2015 15:13

Has anyone found a cheap supplier of the large bottles of water - think they're possibly 10l?

cozietoesie · 12/11/2015 15:20

Why not buy a bottle or two of cheapish squash? That should disguise any slight mustiness, I'd have thought.

cozietoesie · 12/11/2015 15:24

Tesco and Sainsbury's do 5l ones, Stratter5. I'd have thought that was plenty big enough in terms of ease of use and convenience of storage.

ScrappyMalloy · 12/11/2015 15:28

That's what I get -the Tesco 5l are (I think) £1.10 each - we use them on our motor home holidays as they are easy to lift to fill the kettle etc.

cozietoesie · 12/11/2015 15:44

£1.10 they are.

cozietoesie · 12/11/2015 15:46

And so is the Sainsbury's version.

ISpidersmanYouMeanPirate · 12/11/2015 16:12

I plan on changing it every 6 months (when the clocks change to remind me!)

ISpidersmanYouMeanPirate · 12/11/2015 16:14

Oops hadn't updated page.

I was talking about replacing water in food grade containers.

atticusclaw2 · 12/11/2015 16:24

I drink bottled water all the time that is more than year old. Ive been trying to switch from diet coke and so have been drinking the small bottles in the store (about two years old). It tastes no different to any other water and I'm still alive.

ScrappyMalloy · 12/11/2015 16:28

So atticus you are our guinea pig!

I feel very reassured now Grin

atticusclaw2 · 12/11/2015 16:31

Happy to be the guinea pig Grin. If I suddenly disappear from the threads however then stop drinking old bottled water...

ScrappyMalloy · 12/11/2015 16:47

Will do Wink

Stratter5 · 12/11/2015 16:57

You're right, it's 5l Blush

Can you tell I'm of the switch from imperial to metric generation. Upshot is, I can't visuallise either unit Grin

ScrappyMalloy · 12/11/2015 17:00

I asked someone younger the other day, how much did her big dog weigh? She said 28kg, which could be the weight of the moon for all I know Grin

Stratter5 · 12/11/2015 18:27

I know. Sad isn't it. I have to find recipes in imperial, purely because I'm still more comfortable with pounds and ounces

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 12/11/2015 18:37

The vet weighs in kg, so I know my dogs weigh 32kg and 26kg. Me, though, I'm in stones and pounds Smile

winchester1 · 12/11/2015 20:56

Now I'm expat I'm all confused as i have to speak in both all the time. Drives me crazy you cant even talk about going for a pint!

Only if you tell me which wind up lantern you have, I want to get one. Grin

Zetetic · 12/11/2015 22:24

Breaking it gently.....you are a prepper. Head over to the torches thread. Smile
