Just that really? How much water do you plan for?

I am not sure what I am planning for ref water but I do have quite a bit stored away. Plus I have a well in the front yard. It's only 17p per 2ltrs so I stock up on a regular basis along with my online shop.

ArmchairTraveller · 25/10/2015 16:55

10L a person. Plus we have 2 rain barrels and purification tablets.
But that's not for any Ebola fears, it's just my standard emergency thinking. I check stores and replace as necessary every 6 months.

PanicNotAtTheDisco · 25/10/2015 17:52

10 litres per person per day? Crumbs. You must have a lot of space. Is that to include washing and cooking?

I can only store enough water for a few days of drinking. Is there even any point doing that?

No I didn't mean in case of ebola, just in case of general disaster. 17p where? In Aldi its about 30p. Not much difference I know.

Are you anticipating an Ebola pandemic op?

LynetteScavo · 25/10/2015 18:32

I don't gave any. How many days disaster should I be planning for? Shock

Flumplet · 25/10/2015 18:32

Oh sorry just saw you further post. Had me worried then!

StayWithMe · 25/10/2015 18:32

I live in Northern Ireland, we don't need to store water as it rains so much. Grin

RattleAndRoll · 25/10/2015 18:32

I don't have any stored.
What are we storing for?

MrsCampbellBlack · 25/10/2015 18:34

Has something happened whilst I was in the bath?

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 25/10/2015 18:36

None. But I have about 30 cans of Pepsi Max and some milk, so I might be alright for a while.

I've also got 11 bottles of wine, so I won't feel it if I'm not okay!

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 25/10/2015 18:36

I need to stock up and currently have very little.

How much, for a month should I have? Family of 5.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 25/10/2015 18:38

We really need a separate topic, mnhq, it's confusing.

Caravanoflove · 25/10/2015 18:54

I have at least 20 bottles of fizz in my fizz fridge in the garage.
Should I be storing/preparing for a disaster I'm unaware of?!

FuckTheseSixFishInParticular · 25/10/2015 18:55

You need anywhere from 1 - 3 gallons a day per person (depending on what you do with it, if you need it for just drinking it's obviously less than if you need to store it for cooking and washing too). And you need to make sure you include extra for pets too.

So a family of 5 would need about 5 - 15 gallons a day, ThickandThin, so 150 - 450 gallons for a month.

I agree we need a separate topic, but mnhq seems to think that we are all complete nutters so said no!

ArmchairTraveller · 25/10/2015 19:07

Sorry, I have 40l of drinking water stoted altogether, not per day. Blush
That would be overkill I think!
But the rain barrels would give us another 440l

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 25/10/2015 19:10

Thank you FuckThese. We've had a sparkly new garage built and I intend to get a few supplies in there. Water uppermost.

I've messaged MNHQ, we need s topic, it's confusing.

Redcrayons · 25/10/2015 19:10

Mmmm I've got 4 bottles of fizzy water.
I love to jump on the MN bandwagon, but I'm a bit Confused about why we need water

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 25/10/2015 19:12

Just in case red. We are preppers!

Redcrayons · 25/10/2015 19:29

In case of what?

LynetteScavo · 25/10/2015 19:33

So should I get a rain barrel? I think I would rather be stinky than wash in water from a rain barrel Grin

FuckTheseSixFishInParticular · 25/10/2015 19:47

You can get filter systems for water butts to make them safe for use, and water purification tablets to make it safe to drink.

Redcrayons our mains water pipes froze one winter a couple of years ago and we had no water for our house for 48 hours. Including Christmas day. Fortunately we have a neighbour with a heater in her garage who let us fill some buckets. Having at least a couple of days spare water supply can make a big difference.

sooperdooper · 25/10/2015 19:51

I have some squash and a few cans of cider - why are people storing water, please can someone explain??
