Conflicting advice about weaning age

DS was born at 30 weeks and I've been told conflicting things from doctors/health visitors about when to wean. Some say 6 months from due date and some say 6 months from actual birthday. What should I do?!

My ds was born at 33 weeks and in those days weaning was advised from 4 months so we started with baby rice at 5 months from his delivery and he was fine!

I guess it will depend on your child, in the end - look for signs like ability to sit unsupported, loss of tongue thrust reflex, development of pincer grip, ability to chew and swallow food.

The current advice is 6 months from birth age. My twins are 4 months, but were 16 weeks premature which means they will/should be weaned at 8-10 weeks adjusted age. Can't see it happening here to be honest, I'll be waiting longer.

My DD was 14 weeks early - I was advised to wean at 6 months actual age plus 1/2 the weeks premature.

That was nearly 5 years ago mind, so the advice might be different now.
Everyone seemed to say the same though - Consultant at hospital, HV, GP. (made a nice change).

Progress was quite slow though.

There is a Bliss booklet available from their website (bliss.org.uk) specifically about weaning prem babies, I found it really useful for my little man (13 weeks prem, I weaned him at six months from birth date). Good luck!

My little boy was born at almost 33 weeks and was in no way ready for weaning at 6 months, it was more like 11months before we started. He is however physically quite behind his peers (actual and adjusted) so I think you should just wait for the signs of readiness really. It may well be he is ready but don't worry if it feels 'late'

I started 6 months from actual birth date, but we didn't get anywhere until she was about 6 months from expected birth date.

If I was doing it again I'd probably wait because I don't think she was ready, but I'd been told that premature babies should be weaned early, I don't think there is any consensus on it at all!
