Don't really know if this is the place to post this(please advise if not)

Someone I know had her baby 3-4 weeks early and has had a little boy.Does anyone know anything about this condition that he has been born with?

We have Googled it ,and its very rare,so info is limited.

There are several causes of a baby being born with Collodian Skin and until this skin has fallen off, it is unlikely that a diagnosis can/will be made.

The skin is very tight, especially around the mouth, eyes, hands and feet. The pictures that are on the internet are more than likely at the extreme end of this condition and can be quite scary to look at.
After about 2-3 weeks, the collodian skin will split and peel off and will hopefully reveal normal, healthy skin underneath.
Your friends baby is probably in an incubator and may be lying on sheets of mesh coated in liquid parafin mix and will be getting several different creams applied frequently. This is to help to keep the skin moisturised and reduce the chance of infection.

Sometimes, in about 10% of cases, there is no underlying condition at the cause and when this occurs, children should go on to have no problems.

It really does depend on what has caused the Collodian skin as to any future outcome.

Sorry can't offer any more information at the moment, hope this is of a little help,
